Tech Tip Thursday April 28, 2016

Most of you probably know by now that I LOVE Chrome! One of the main reasons is because of the extensions!

Many times teachers need to share a URL with students or parents, but if the URL is too long it can be nearly impossible.

An extension that I use daily is the Google URL Shortener. Not only does it give you a shortened URL for ANY web address, it will also generate a QR Code, too! Two birds with one stone, folks!

Here's How it Works:

First open the Chrome Browser. (You MUST use Chrome for the extension to work!)

Go to the Chrome Web Store.

Search for Google URL Shortener.

Be sure to select extensions instead of apps!

Click the blue Add to Chrome button.

A pop-up will appear asking for permission. Click Add Extension.

The extension icon will show up at the top of your screen next to the URL bar.

Go to a URL that you would like to shorten.

Click the Shortener icon and a brand new SHORTENED URL will appear instantly!

Would you rather use a QR code? NO PROBLEM! Just click the QR Code link and a unique code will appear for any webpage!

That's all there is to it!

Bonus Tip:

Users do not need to type http://. Just start with goo.gl! But remember that the address is CASE-SENSITIVE so be mindful of capital and lowercase letters!
