The Orphan Spirit Teaching

Who Am I?
Galatians 4:6-7 - Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Remember the history of the Israelites.

The Israelite identity was that of a slave.

God gave them a new identity.

Israel constantly fought this new identity through complaint.

Complaint against God and disagreeing with your God-given identity will always hold you back from your inheritance, from all He has called you to. Learn from the Israelites (1 Cor. 10:1-13; Heb. 3:7-14).
So why would we live as orphans when we are really children of God?
We live without boundaries.

Characteristics of The Orphan Spirit (the one who lives without boundaries)

  • Assumes they are over-looked and forgotten
  • Lonely - wears this
  • Rejected - lives this out
  • Independent - fend for self
  • Rebellious attitude toward leaders
  • Over-sensitive to correction
  • Dwells with comparison and competitiveness
  • Deceptive - presents one way, feels another
  • Hoards comfort - leading to addictions
  • Striving for acceptance

Example of Living with the Orphan Spirit

  • The Prodigal brother of Luke 15:28-32

What's the truth?

So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20 NIV
Romans 8:15-16 - For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. John 14:23 NIV

and he waits and knocks...

Revelation 3:20

Repent of unbelief and boundary-less living. It's time to let the Father in and deal with the orphan spirit.
