"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself"(Coelho134). This quote relates to the theme, "beware of the destructive danger of fear". It relates because i believe that fear is a choice, choosing to believe the idea of fear or in this case suffering is the destruction that fear causes. Fear lies to us, it doesn't explain the outcome, because it doesn't know the outcome so it makes stuff up. That's why we have to find the outcome out for ourselves. When we do look past our fears, most of the time we forget about why we were scared in the first place then see that things aren't so bad, or maybe they are,but at least you know now and it's better to know then not to know and wonder, what if.
"you must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his personal legend. If he abandons that pursuit, its because it wasn't true love...the love that speaks the language of the world".(Coelho124). The quote reflects the theme "have the ability to love and let go". In this case Santiago calls it love at first sight when he meets Fatima, Santiago realized that in order to achieve his personal legend he had to let Fatima go, well, not necessarily let go but put his dreams first. My question is, does he even know what love is? The moment they met, that feeling he felt is what made him "fall in love" but what if that feeling went away, would he love her then? Maybe it was a temporary feeling or moment that later fades away into a memory and later acknowledges that it wasn't love.
"his parents wanted him to become a priest and thereby a source of pride for a simple family farm"(Coelho10). this theme connects to "go after your dreams and believe in yourself". Santiago's parents wanted him to become a priest but it was his dream of becoming a shepherd and being able to travel the world, regardless of what his parents wanted him to do or who to be. Dreams, turn in to realitys, if it's what you really want, if you put your mind & focus into it, you can achieve your dream or goal, not noticing another opinion.
"The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never forget the drops of the oil spoon"(Coelho35). The quote describes the theme "trust in your intuition and the universe to guide you", it states that in order to maintain balance you have to keep in mind whats important as well as the things your longing.without balance everything begins to fall apart and break down, sooner or Later your going to have to try again, and try again until you learn how to do both while being at ease.
"when a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream" (Coelho118). The quote relates to "trust in your intuition and the universe to guide you" its not literally saying the universe helps a person realize there dream but is trying to explain that when someone desires something,it mentally makes things easier to understand, and gives a direction of where they can start and a hint of where it ends.
