Texas BY: Ki-LIN POPE & JACKSON UTTER

Texas is the 28th state in America. Texas is known for its frontier spirit and welcomes everyone who shares their spirit. Although Texas is a American state, people from all around the world come to live or visit this huge state.

Texas is located in the Southwestern part of America. Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Louisiana share a border with Texas. Texas has many deserts, but Texas also has many areas where they have grass and crops that grow. In the western part of Texas lays the Rocky Mountains, which mostly lays in the Great Plains.

In 1528, Texas was first discovered by Europeans that crashed along the coast of Texas. Years later more settlers came and tried to build settlements which caused tension between the natives and the settlers. Although many countries tried to build settlements, in 1821 Mexico declared its independence.

Texas has many cultures in itself, one example of this is 63% of the population is American. The other main population is Hispanic, which is 28% of the population. Many people from Texas speak English and Spanish. Some famous people from Texas are Rick Riordan, George W. Bush, and Nolan Ryan.

Some symbols for Texas are The Alamo, The Longhorn, Cattle, Armadillos, and The Lone Star Flag. The total number of people in Texas is around 27,469,114. The total number of square miles in Texas is 268,597 miles.
