WCPS week 6 W/E 13/10/19

I spend all week planning what I’m going to write to you all and I must say that this week I have been so excited to share what has been happening across school. I really am proud to be leading WCPS and being able to play a part in each and everyone’s learning journey.

This week I have seen so many pupils being sent to my office to share positives and achievements and I absolutely love celebrating with them. Children have really grown a pride that shines so brightly. They are proud of what they do but so reflective that they are happy to say next time I want to try this! They don’t settle for it will do but push themselves to be the best they can be and push a little further!

Attendance has been really positive this week so thank you so much for supporting us. Don’t forget to come in and speak to us if your need to.

This week I have asked a number pupils from across key stage 2 to write a review of their week to share so look no further, Here is what has been happening!

Thank you

Mrs Paddock

Attendance this week has been the best it has ever been! Overall Attendance is 95.9!

This week attendance is above target at 97.1 %

3 classes with 100% class 4 for the fourth time! class 12 and class 13

Punctuality needs to improve, this week we have had 49 lates which totals 554 minutes of lost learning. Next week anyone turning up on time will receive free toast at playtimes.

Last week’s Smartie Pants made us proud! It’s great to be able to share this experience with the children’s families, thank you to everyone who comes along to celebrate.

This week I joined Nursery as they went on their own bear hunt. They focused on being able to join in and talking about the experiences as they waded through grass, water, mud and leaves.

Year 1 have visited Antarctica to try and find the lost penguin! What did you send on your postcard?

Next week they are continuing to use the book by Oliver Jeffers to explore story writing.

Here are the long awaited new, interactive stories that the children in CIRP have worked so hard to produce. They have shown great resilience to create these and overcome a number of barriers to learning successfully. The new stories show a small part of the complex learning and skills that the children completed to get to this stage. I am proud of each and every one of these children for demonstrating what 'I can't do it' to 'I can't do it yet' mindset can help them achieve. Please take the time to enjoy their stories - click on each picture to listen to audio.

In maths, we have learnt a new strategy to solve subtraction with 2-digit numbers using a tens and one grid. Don’t forget to go on Maths with Parents at home so that you can practise this method.

In literacy, we have been learning about different conjunctions and how they can be used as a joining word to add more detail to sentences. Next week we will be looking at using this skill to write a letter as a detective mouse! Keep an eye out for our learning on our blogs and twitter pages!

Pupil Voice and reviews of this week’s learning...

So this week, in literacy, we have looked at and used synonyms and antonyms. We know that synonyms are words that mean the same but are spelt differently. Antonyms are opposites for example; darted and still or loud and silent. In maths we have learnt about fractions and how to simplify them. We have also looked at converting fractions into decimals.

In History we have been preparing for the Viking museum. Don’t forget to come along!

In maths we have been looked at squared and cubed numbers and how you multiply numbers by themselves 2 or 3 times. We have also applied previous learning using multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.

7 squared = 7 x 7 = 49

In literacy this week we have been finishing our Grimm stories and editing them to make them our best. We also published them as audiobooks.

In science we have learnt about a healthy diet and discussed what we should eat more of.

In topic we have been writing a script, as groups, ready for a play to perform at our parents event.

In PE we have been practising our ball skills.

In maths we have been learning about timesing 3 digit numbers by 1 digit. I found it tricky but I didn’t give up, I was resilient.

In literacy we have been using the book Gulliver’s Travels. We have summarised our ideas and explored subordinating conjunctions to put together a balanced argument.

Lucy Class 10

This week was tough but we really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed reading the Firebird story. My target was to try harder in reading skills and I achieved it!

I typed up my diary and it was about how a Viking child would have lived.

We learnt how to convert fractions into decimals, how to simplify fractions and how to identify equivalent fractions. We even solved really tough fractions challenges.

Annabelle and Frankie

Hello I am Vincent and I have been chosen as this week’s newsletter representative. I have enjoyed every moment in year 6 and have achieved many things.

In literacy we have been writing a story using our imagination and published our stories to be displayed outside the classroom.

In maths we have been learning many different things. In topic we have been learning about the history of crime and punishment.

That’s all I’ve got to say this week bye!

Today in maths we were working with 2 and 3 digit numbers but Lucas, Lacey and I did something even harder.

In literacy we have used the Gulliver’s Travels book and started to think about both sides of the argument using subordinating conjunctions.

In history we have been finding out about Roman times and used our D&T skills to create our own Roman shield.

This week we have learnt that bees and wind create new plants because bees collect the pollen. The stigma makes the seeds and the wind blows the seeds away. Hopefully the seeds land in soil so then it can grow a new plant.

In literacy we have written a letter to Prince Ivan to give hike some advice about how to catch the golden apple thief. We have focused on using subjunctive and modal verbs.

This week I have enjoyed completing the extra hard challenges everyday.

This week in maths we have been crossing the hundreds boundary using column method for addition and subtraction. I have really enjoyed maths because I did lots of questions using column method. I think I achieved in maths this week.

This week in literacy I have been writing my “happily ever after” ending for my own version of Cinderella, called Cinderlad. I finished it and then published it on an iPad using book creator.

Philip Class 7

We were very lucky to have a visit from google this week. They delivered an assembly about how to stay safe online and to teach us about acceptable and not acceptable online behaviours. We became internet legends.
