2020 brought a year unlike any other. While a lot changed about this year, we were still able to work to continue the work of expanding access to safe, fit, and affordable housing in our community.

2020 was a year of some really exciting progress, particularly in the North Highland community.

We opened the doors to Highland Terrace, a 102-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors. The beautiful building was built in conjunction with Vizion Driven Communities and is on the site of the Old Meritas Mills.

To finance $18,478,810 in development costs for Highland Terrace, we worked with Vizion Driven Communities to identify sources of funding to complete the development. The project received a 4% LIHTC allocation, with RedStone Equity Partners purchasing the tax credits to generate equity. Sterling Bank provided the construction loan and Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust provided permanent financing.

Great things are underway on 4th Avenue in North Highland. NeighborWorks Columbus now owns 85% of the block between 35th and 38th Street. Our first homeowner Patricia Tyson moved into the first home built in Highland Homes in 2020!

Not everyone is in a position to buy a home, which is why we offer affordable, quality rental units. 33 families lived in rental units managed by NeighborWorks Columbus last year.

101 families became homeowners in 2020!

332 customers participated in our one-on-one counseling sessions to prepare for homeownership.

129 people took our eHome homebuyer education course.

We closed 2020 with 55 loans totaling $1.1 Million!

We have started planning and readying for an exciting new project in South Columbus! Elliot's walk will be a new subdivision with 100 homes--33 single family homes and 67 townhouses. More to come on this exciting project in 2021!

In 2020, we raised $2.5 million dollars, which we invested in:

  • Creating 101 new homeowners
  • $1 million in down payment assistance and loans
  • $1.4 million in revitalization of North Highland neighborhood
  • Providing financial education & counseling for over 360 people

Expense Allocation:

  • 73% Program Services
  • 27% in Management & General

All our work is made possible by our dedicated volunteers, donors, and partners!
