Since opening on the 16th of January 2017 we have been receiving reports from parents, students and community members appreciating the work the Homework Center has been doing.
Many of the students don't have time and/or a good environment for doing their school homework at their respective homes. Some of the students say their siblings disturb them when they are trying to do their homework. Some will be watching TV, making unnecessary noise so they cannot concentrate. The Jesus Cares Center offers a quiet, comfortable environment with a qualified teacher (Owen) for the students to learn. Whenever they encounter problems in their work, our staff are there to assist them to understand.
We are in the third week now and students who come to the center are excelling in their weekly tests given to them at their schools. One of the grade six learners was the only one who actually did his school homework in his class. All thirty three of the other students in his class didn't do it. By coming to the Jesus Cares Center he was able to do his school work. His teacher had no choice but to detain all of the other 33 students for discipline but sent him home - job well done.
Burlington has a high rate of young people who are on drugs. The Jesus Cares Centre helps to keep students off the streets and is making a difference in uplifting the education of the young minds of this community who are our future leaders.
Twice a week we are conducting a course at the Jesus Care Centre with an organization called Innovative Waste Design (IWD). They are teaching the ladies skills to make their own clothing.
At the end of the course the ladies will receive a certificate.
Please keep him in your prayers as we trust God for the finances for the visa, airfares and local transport costs. All up the total is around R11500 (AU$1150).
