Geoff and Michelle Mission Update - February 2017

Jesus Care Centre

The Siyathuthuka Burlington educational support programme has so far registered fifty five (55) students who come to the Jesus Cares Center to do their school homework. These pupils, from Grades 3 to 8, mostly come from the Burlington and attend various public schools in the Durban area.

Since opening on the 16th of January 2017 we have been receiving reports from parents, students and community members appreciating the work the Homework Center has been doing.

Many of the students don't have time and/or a good environment for doing their school homework at their respective homes. Some of the students say their siblings disturb them when they are trying to do their homework. Some will be watching TV, making unnecessary noise so they cannot concentrate. The Jesus Cares Center offers a quiet, comfortable environment with a qualified teacher (Owen) for the students to learn. Whenever they encounter problems in their work, our staff are there to assist them to understand.

We are in the third week now and students who come to the center are excelling in their weekly tests given to them at their schools. One of the grade six learners was the only one who actually did his school homework in his class. All thirty three of the other students in his class didn't do it. By coming to the Jesus Cares Center he was able to do his school work. His teacher had no choice but to detain all of the other 33 students for discipline but sent him home - job well done.

Burlington has a high rate of young people who are on drugs. The Jesus Cares Centre helps to keep students off the streets and is making a difference in uplifting the education of the young minds of this community who are our future leaders.

Sewing Group

Twice a week we are conducting a course at the Jesus Care Centre with an organization called Innovative Waste Design (IWD). They are teaching the ladies skills to make their own clothing.

At the end of the course the ladies will receive a certificate.

South Africa and Uganda

Geoff is busy preparing for his time teaching in Bethlehem South Africa and Uganda. He will spend two weeks in February teaching Worldview and Lordshsip on the Discipleship Traing School (DTS) in Bethlehem before heading to Uganda in March to teach on three topics (Worldview, Lordship and Relationships) in three different locations on three seperate DTS.

H will also be conducting leadership training in various churches in Uganda

Leadership Training

Please keep him in your prayers as we trust God for the finances for the visa, airfares and local transport costs. All up the total is around R11500 (AU$1150).

The Durban DTS are currently on outreach and and will return to the YWAM base in late February. They have been travelling around South Africa visiting various locations and YWAM bases before heading to Botswana and now Zimbabwe.

Well the paperwork is finally done. We are officially registered as Academy of the Nations Durban. It was a long process but well worth it.

Geoff is now busy arranging for a change of directors for Discover Your Destiny and then will pursue Registration as a Public Benefit Organisation with the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

The computers have finally arrived and been installed in the office and student lounge at Youth With A Mission Durban. Our thanks goes out to Electronic Cemetery in Pinetown for their kind donation.
