10 FROM 2018 kelly castro

According to Lightroom CC, I captured 9,462 photos in 2018. Here are 10 of 'em...

My wife in her natural habitat. San Francisco, February 2018.

A single exposure that looks like a double exposure, shot at night in downtown San Francisco. Finished with one of my favorite new Lightroom color profiles - Vintage 07. Shot with the Sony RX100 Mark II.

Paris, June 2018.

Backlit lamp post on the Pont Royal during an evening cruise down the Seine. Shot with the Sony RX100 Mark II.

Portrait of Lex van den Berghe. San Francisco, April 2018.

Lex needed an updated headshot and I wanted to try out a new modifier (a 24" Westcott Rapid Box Beauty Dish). Still not sold on the modifier, butI love how sharp, minimal and sculptural this portrait is. Shot with the Canon 5D Mark IV & the EF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro.

New York City, October 2018.

Slow shutter + intentional camera movement from my hotel window in NYC while visiting for Photo Plus. Shot with the Sony RX100 Mark II.

Portrait of Josh Haftel, San Francisco, April 2018.

Josh sat-in while his fiancé was getting her make-up done for a headshot. Key light was the Godox AD600 Pro modified with a Photek Softlighter . Shot with the Canon 5D Mark IV and the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L.

Sleeping it off in the sun near environmental chalk illustration. San Francisco, August 2018.

A not-unusual scene near Broadway & Columbus in North Beach, often my destination for weekend photowalks through the city. Shot with the Fuji X-E3 & the XF 23mm f/1.4 R

Weston Beach texture, Point Lobos, November 2018.

Weston Beach at low tide presents an endless number of textures to photograph. I was testing out the latest upgrade to my favorite travel cam, the Sony RX100 Mark VI, which puts a 24-200mm zoom in your pocket - insane...

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Death Valley, November 2018.

From the last Adobe Camera Raw photo trip of 2018. We woke up @ 4:45 AM to be at this spot for sunrise on our first day in Death Valley, and I didn't get anything to speak of. Three of us went back before Sunset on our last day and my head was spinning like a top. Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes - what an incredible place. I had to keep reminding myself to put down the camera every once in a while and just take it all in. Shot with the Canon 5D Mark IV & the EF 70-300mm DO.

Ally, Inverness, December 2018.

I began photographing Ally in late Summer for her modeling agency in SF. We hit it off and continue to work on photos for her book. This was my favorite shot from our last shoot at Pierce Point Ranch in Point Reyes, just as the sun was about to disappear. Shot with the Canon 5D Mark IV & the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L.

Death Valley, November 2018.

A group of about 10 of us gathered at the Zabriskie Point overlook to shoot the night sky. It was the first time I've ever been prepared with the right gear in a place with so little light pollution. Knowing that we were all going to bring back essentially the same shot, I decided to try some compositing to spice things up. The landscape is from around high noon on 20 Mule Team Road, composited with the Milky Way in Ps. I know - blasphemy. Both images were shot with the Canon 5D Mark IV & the EF 24mm 1.4 L II.
