On the second day of Christmas...

...we learned to work with others

This Christmas, we're dishing out bite-size, top tips to remind families of the importance of play and realise just how many skills can be developed along the way.

Skill 1: Working with others

Top tip:

Encourage and praise children for positive social interactions and behaviours.

Do they:

  • Share and take turns?
  • Praise and encourage others?
  • Listen to others and share their ideas?

Positive reinforcement from parents/guardians and adults builds confidence in children and morale in their family team during activities. Praising the behaviours of children instead of just their achievements help develop positive attitudes within children.

"We are seeing not only an increase in weekly exercise at home, but also greater social interaction between parents and children." Paul Naylor, Gaskell Community Primary School

real play supports families to play and learn together. Not only does it allow families precious time to bond and share moments of pure fun and joy while learning together, it also provides them with the skills they need to be a healthy and active unit.
