Chayse Boecker Genius Hour How do we see things?

For my project I have decided to focus on researching how the eye works and how we can see color . Finding the right information is important to me, by getting most of my info from the internet. My goal for this project is to learn how the eye works an also the way we perceive color. Another goal of mine is to ask people what a certain color represents like red representing danger or passion. Also i will want to learn how certain colors can affect your mind (if possible). I will measure these goals by asking people to take a quiz what that color represent to them and doing plenty of research.

I have learned that Light from the sun, or an artificial light, travels in a straight line, bounces off objects and into our eyes through the pupil. Depending on the amount of light, the iris changes the size of the pupil to let more or less light in. This is to prevent damage to the eyes, by stopping too much light entering the eye when it is bright, and maximizing the amount of light entering the eye when it’s dark. I have learned that i am more interested in they way we see things and found that i kinda take my sight for granted. For my sources i used the internet, this link provided me with the most info i needed ( From here i plan to research more and find out how we see color.

I have learned that we see colors because our brain translates light to color. When light hits an object like a apple the object absorbs some of the light and reflects the rest of it. Which wavelengths are reflected or absorbed depends on the properties of the object. the wavelengths of reflected light determine what color you see. Cones are one type of photoreceptor, the tiny cells in the retina that respond to light. Most of us have 6 to 7 million cones. I have learned about myself that the way we see color is pretty interesting. This week I mainly used the internet but i did read a book about the eye. Next i would like to ask people what emotions they connect with certain colors and make a chart. So I've learned that people connect emotions with certain colors. So to test this I asked a few people online what emotions they connected with the colors.

  • Red: passion
  • Blue: sad
  • Green: natural
  • Yellow: energetic

I found it interesting how similar the people's emotions connected with the colors. For my sources i used the interned to ask the people about the colors. From here I plan to work on my final product.
