Nermeen Ibrahim is a young woman from Cairo. Sexual harassment is common in the busy, crowded neighborhood she calls home. Like many women in Cairo, Nermeen feared the stares of men every time she left her house.
One day she decided that she shouldn’t have to be a stranger in her own city. She joined UN Women‘s Safe Cities initiative to help spread awareness of sexual harassment in city spaces.
Now Nermeen goes door-to-door helping families recognize signs of domestic abuse and find the courage to seek help. With each family she visits, and with each mother and child she helps, Nermeen finds new courage of her own —courage she never thought she had.
