Students' Association Update Your CitySA REpresentatives for 2018/2019

Hey everyone! Welcome to the first edition of the Students' Association update for 2018/19.

My name is Milea and I’m delighted to be your Student President for 2018/19.

I’ve been a student here for two years and worked in the Students’ Association (City SA) last year as Vice President Social & Activities while studying Hospitality Management. My aim as Student President is to give you the best possible experience here at City of Glasgow College and get your voices heard.

Your Students’ Association helps to ensure that the highest levels of learning and teaching are maintained through our Class and Faculty Reps. We also have several events taking place throughout the year which you can get involved in. Our Student Elections will take place in March giving you the chance to be in next years' SA team!

Freshers' 2018

On 4th and 5th of September, we’ll be hosting our Freshers’ event ‘All the Fun of the Fair’ at City Campus and 13th September at our Riverside Campus.

You’ll be able to participate in fun activities, collect plenty of freebies and find out more information on what the college has to offer. And it’s FREE admission!

The best way to keep up-to-date on all of our Freshers' updates is by following our CitySA Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We’re excited to announce we’ll be launching Snapchat so look out for our spooky SA ghost coming soon to an association near you.

Strathclyde Union Takeover

This year we are also teaming up with Strathclyde Students' Association to offer you two fun evenings of music and entertainment in their Student Union.

Tickets are only £5 which will give you access to a free pizza, 10 pool tokens and an awesome White T-Shirt night. This event is over 18s only. To get your tickets, you can pop into the Students’ Association (2nd Floor at City and ground floor at Riverside) or you can purchase them here

Tuesday 4th September- 'Welcome to College'

I’m looking forward to seeing you all and I hope you’re excited to start your journey here at City of Glasgow College!

Hi, my name is Alex and I am your new Vice President of Diversity and Wellbeing for 2018/19. I am 19 and currently a second year student studying Social Sciences. Firstly, I’d like to say how excited I am to have this opportunity and I can’t wait to work with the Presidential team to ensure that you have an amazing experience at City of Glasgow College.

Sanitary Products

Here are City of Glasgow College, we recognise that period poverty exists within our society. As part of our Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Award, we are providing these essential products to students within a number of our toilets.

Think Positive

One of the key areas I want to focus on during my term is Mental Health as I believe it’s important that students feel supported throughout their college experience. Here at City of Glasgow College, we’re working towards a Student Mental Health Agreement (SMHA), an initiative led by Think Positive. This initiative aims to bring Students’ Associations and their institutions together in a formal agreement to work jointly on Mental Health issues on campus.

Hello everyone! My name is Rachael and I am your new Vice President for Social and Activities. I’m a second year HND Legal Services student and hardworking mum. I am thrilled to be given this opportunity and I would like to thank all those who voted for me during the 'Big Elections'.

Last year I started the Debating Society for the college and I loved every minute of it. It helped me meet new people and enjoy new experiences. I want you get the most out of your time at City of Glasgow College and have the most enjoyable college experience possible.

Sports Clubs and Societies

Here at the Students' Association, we offer a variety of clubs and societies that all students can join. As well as the Debating Society, last year we introduced the Gaming, Warhammer, Christian, Drama and Jamming societies. There are a number of sports clubs you can join such as Badminton, Football, Netball, Basketball and Running which kick off on 10th September. You can check out our latest timetable below. The best way to keep up to date is by liking the COGC Sports Clubs Facebook page.

The Students' Association will keep you posted on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram about clubs and societies. We will have stalls for Clubs and Societies at Freshers’, so come and tell me about any club/society ideas that you may have. Let’s make this year the best yet!

Hello, I’m Jennifer Gordon and I’m delighted to be your new Vice President of Learning and Teaching. I’m a second year HND Architectural Technology student who is passionate about providing our students with the best possible opportunities we have to offer at City of Glasgow College. My aim is to allow students to gain valuable experience during their time at college to prepare them for the world of work.

Class Reps

If you would like the opportunity to shape student life within City of Glasgow College, becoming a Class Rep is the way to do this. As a Class Rep you’ll act as the link between the College, CitySA and the students in your class. You'll be responsible for communicating, listening and talking to students in your class, representing their opinions and views to the College staff and passing information back to your class mates and CitySA.

The Students' Association will provide support and training throughout the year to all Class Reps and you will be given opportunities to develop skills, meet new people and make a difference to your student experience.

My Voice

Last year we launched My Voice, an online platform where you can post your ideas on how we can improve your student journey. We were overwhelmed by the response with over 18745 interactions since its launch. Wow. Changes made through the platform have included longer library opening hours, more choice of meal options on campus and, coming this year, student-led teaching awards.

We want to continue to influence change but we can only do that with your input. If you have any ideas, big or small, head over to My Voice and let us know what we can do to improve your student experience.
