Trust the Process Longtime GUSC player Courtney Conner continues her soccer journey at Belmont Abbey

For many, simply playing college soccer is a dream that players strive and work for. Courtney Conner is a testament to that – realizing her dream of collegiate soccer in her hometown.

Always a hard-worker and intensely loyal, Conner joined Gaston United as a fifth grader as a recreational player – playing every position. But she’d eventually find her home between the goal posts as a goalkeeper.

Conner’s soccer journey – at least the club portion – has ended, but her signing at Belmont Abbey College marks a new chapter.

“We are really exciting day for her,” said her father, George. “Mom and dad are very proud.

“As best I can remember, Courtney has been playing soccer with Gaston United since she was 9 years old – having played on travel teams since the age of 10 for a total of eight years. We appreciate all of her coaches over the years.”

It is certainly an honor, both as a club and as a soccer family, to see one of its own move on to the next level. Every good goalkeeper knows that patience is a big part of soccer – as is trusting the process.

“Conner is a great example to other players coming through the ranks,”

...said Jonas Richardson, Gaston United’s executive director. “We certainly wish her the best moving forward.”
