UNCONVENTIONAL

SYNOPSIS

A former CIA operative takes viewers inside the world of governments and big oil; and tells the true stories of the lives destroyed in their wake; all in their pursuits of power and profits.

Unconventional is a three-part documentary taking an intimate look at the career of CIA operative Mike Ricard, who worked for over 15 years under non- official cover inside some of the work’s largest oil companies.

Through personal interviews and reenactments, the series covers Ricard’s activities throughout Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East; taking viewers behind the headlines of some of the biggest energy deals of the least two decades and exposing the blurring lines between big oil and national security.

At the heart of Unconventional though is what Ricard calls ‘the ground-truth’ about lives sacrificed in the pursuit of power and profits and its devastating impact wherever they coalesce, and the lingering questions of how society will balance powering the future with its politics and humanity.
