  • The KKK was Founded in the early 1860's by 6 men, the rest of the first group is unknown.
  • In the 1920's the KKK reached their peak of 4 million people
  • A famous ritual preformed by the KKK is the cross burning/ lighting. They burn the cross because this is supposed to show their faith in Christ.
  • The KKK felt that the African Americans had no right in america and shouldn't have the right to vote. Many riots were held as African Americans won elections.
  • Many rituals and riots were held at night.
  • One of the most popular racial laws are the Jim Crow laws that segregated almost all aspects of daily life such as parks, means of transportation, libraries, etc.
  • The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made it illegal to discriminate any person of any race in places such as public schools, public facilities, and work places.
  • The Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963, this act enforced that work places such as factories had to pay everyone equally including immigrants, and African Americans.
  • Segregation is still an on going problem
  • From the beginning of the progressive era to the modern day, we as a society have progressed by lessening the racial tension, and by putting laws in place to prevent segregation from getting any worse than it is today.
