Name: Nancy A. Leister, Retired Certified Medical Assistant and Flower Shop Owner
Board Position: Executive Committee Member-at-Large
I am in my second term on the Board of Directors, previously serving as Secretary, Chair of Development Committee, and currently on the Development Committee and Executive Committee.
I was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and when I was two, my parents moved to Two Taverns. I graduated from Gettysburg High School and the Harrisburg Institute of Medical Arts. I managed a doctor’s office for 15 years and then opened and ran my own floral business for 12 years. Later, I worked for Garrick Jewelers for 10 years, retiring several years ago.
I always had an interest in music and the theatre. I took piano lessons for 10 years and then later in life developed a group of 4 pianists (Duo X Two) which performed concerts on the eastern coast and raised $250,000 for charity in Hanover for True North and The Eichelberger Performing Arts Center.
I love all show productions of GCT, but my favorites are the cabarets of present directors and students and former students coming back to perform. I think a theatre is very important to a community for all ages not only to learn, but to enable a person to express their desire and passion for the arts. At GCT, we have a children’s level, and adult level, a senior citizens level, and a special needs level of the arts. GCT was the first theatre outside of the state of Illinois to have a production of “The Penguin Project.” For the past 4 years we have had children from at least 12-15 school districts participate in this event.
It is amazing to see how much GCT has grown over the past 10 years. I commend all of the parents, volunteers, our exceptional board of directors, and especially our Founding Executive/Artistic Director, Chad-Alan Carr for all of his talents that he passes on to this theatre.
My hope is that this community will continue to support this theatre in whatever way they can and that we continue on for many, many years to come!
