Showcase Musical Productions

Welcome to Showcase!

We are a registered Scottish charity with one aim: to raise funds for charity by staging an annual show offering the highest standard of entertainment and professionalism. Each year, our show comprises an eclectic mix of musical styles and sources, drawing on the rich vein of amateur musical talent in the Edinburgh area. From rock, pop and musical theatre to the music of the cinema, there's one thing for sure - when you come to a Showcase show there's bound to be something that gets your toes tapping.

Since our inception in 1991, our chosen charity has been, and remains, Macmillan Cancer Support. To date, we are proud to have raised over £312,000 for this extremely worthwhile cause, enabling them to focus on their aim of ensuring no one faces cancer alone. In 2017, we were very honoured to receive the Douglas Macmillan award. This award is given to an individual or a group that acts as ambassadors to make sure everyone knows about Macmillan, uses their influence to make a significant impact in their local area, engages with their community by informing others about Macmillan and demonstrates evidence of raising the profile of Macmillan.

Practical information

If you're considering joining Showcase as a performing member, here's some general information:

Auditioning is a two step process. First of all, there's an audition to join the company. This means singing a song of your choice, and giving us a bit of information about yourself. If successful, you will be invited to join Showcase. You can then further audition to be a soloist or dancer in our next production.

Members pay an annual subscription, and have a commitment to sell tickets for the annual show, which takes placed in September in the Church Hill Theatre, Edinburgh.

We also put on a couple of fundraising concerts in May, and there are Christmas concerts too.

Rehearsals are Thursday nights during the summer, with additional Tuesdays for soloists and dancers (as required). In September, the entire company is required on Sunday afternoons, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We usually rehearse in St Michael's Church Hall, Slateford Road, Edinburgh.

We're quite a sociable bunch too! There are pub crawls and other social events to help people get to know each other better, have a great time and put on a wonderful show... all while raising money for Macmillan! But don't just take our word for it - have a look at what some of our cast members have to say (below)...

Macmillan wants to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone and, being a part of Showcase, I'm doing my bit to make that happen. I'm so lucky to be able to do something I love, with some of my best friends, for such a good cause, that's very close to my heart.
