OKLAHOMA 80, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 48 the Sooners used suffocating defense in the third quarter to run away with their season opener.

The Sooners have won 18 out of their last 19 home openers under Sherri Coale.

Vionise Pierre-Louis led the Sooners with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The junior was also a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line and pulled down six rebounds.

Gioya Carter poured in 16 points and led the team with a game-high eight rebounds.

Carter's eight rebounds were one off her career high set in 2015. OU is 5-1 all-time when Carter leads the team in rebounding.

With a six-point halftime lead, the Sooners blew the game open in the third quarter with a quick 8-0 run.
OU used a 23-2 run in the third quarter to put the game out of reach, holding SIU to just two points in the frame.
Gabbi Ortiz made her 67th consecutive start. The junior joins Stacey Dales as the only OU point guard to begin her career with as many consecutive starts in the Sherri Coale era.

The Sooners improved to 33-7 all-time in home openers and 34-15 all-time in season openers. OU is 17-4 in regular season openers and 19-2 in home openers under Sherri Coale.

OU's 23 made free throws were the most by the Sooners in a season opener since 2011.

Sunday's win marked OU's 375th all-time home win at Lloyd Noble Center.
