December faculty spotlight
Dr. Barbara Burns
Dr. Burns came to teach at Canisius in 2001, and has been teaching students with a smile ever since. She went to Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY, and received her Masters and PhD at the University of Buffalo. Currently, she is part of the Teacher Education Department and is beloved by her students. She also teaches an Honors course, Mathematics: Patterns, Problems, and Puzzles.
Her nominator writes: Dr. Burns always comes into class with a smile and a new, stylish outfit! She teaches with such patience and she really loves her job. Math Patterns, Problems, and Puzzles was such a fun and interesting class, and I would highly recommend it!
Thank you, Dr. Burns, for being such a wonderful part of the Honors Program!
December Student Spotlight
Amanda is a sophomore studying Adolescent Education with a Spanish concentration, and a double minor in Creative Writing and English. She is the Commuter Assistant representative, the secretary for the Teacher Education club, secretary of Women and Gender Studies club, and last but certainly not least, a sophomore representative for the Honors Student Association. She also assisted in the organization of our Honors Student Orientation this past summer.
In Amanda's spare time, she loves to read and write, and has written multiple heart warming, moving, creative articles for The Griffin. She is currently a nanny for a one-year-old and a nine-year-old and loves her job with them! This winter break, she is also traveling to Argentina for three weeks with a small group to study Spanish as a short term study abroad. Thank you Amanda for all your hard work!
