Facebook was launched on February 4 of 2004...
...By computer genius Mark Zuckerberg...
...at Harvard University, or Cambridge Massachusetts.
Facebook is a Social Media website or application, were you can post pictures, thoughts or if you want to share a post you have already seen. It's a way to stay connected with your friends and family while also sharing feelings and information.
What is the purpose of Facebook?
Facebook's original purpose was to connect Harvard Students, but after it blew up, its drive was to connect the entire world. It was built to help the world be more open and connected. The hope was to strengthen how people relate to each other. Mark Zuckerberg said that “Simply put: we don’t build services to make money; we make money to build better services.” He believed one of the most important things were the relationships people had with each other. His mindset set was that he could make the way people interacted with each other more positive if he gave them a voice but also a connection.
The Evolution of facebook
In 2004, Facebook started out as a website for Harvard students. This was where they were able to search for people that went to their school, looked at their classes, etc. In 2005, more schools started to join. 2006 is when the mini-feed started, along with poking. In 2007, anyone over the age of 13 was allowed to join Facebook, and the Feed was born. The Feed allowed you to see what your friends have been doing since the last time you've logged in.
2009, Facebook goes mobile. 2011 is when the new Facebook design was launched. You were now able to add a cover photo. The timeline was also added to show more of what you were sharing and posting rather than your personal information. On March 5, 2014, the Facebook Messenger was released. Besides little updates, the Facebook design has stayed the same and basically many people have one.
