SmartIT's Year in Review 2016 - Indianapolis, Cincinnati,Columbus

2016 was a wonderful year for SmartIT and we have a lot of memories to share. From in-house hosted events, being honored at two "Best Places to Work" ceremonies, community service days, and everything in-between, 2016 did not disappoint. Here are some of the stories behind SmartIT's company values, employee events, community service opportunities, and community events.

smart values

This year, SmartIT's Founders, Karen Cooper and Paul Rothwell, decided to refine SmartIT's values. Values are a necessary component of this organizational identity recipe. We can’t guide the organization to its future state or live out our purpose if there isn’t a clear set of guidelines for how to act and operate.

Service and community bike build challenge

The community bike build challenge was comprised of 65 employees mixed into 11 teams. Each team was given 90 minutes out of their day to collaborate and to solve puzzles to win tools and parts towards building and completing a bike with their team.

SmartIT partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Zionsville and provided 11 shiny new bikes to area youth. Not only did employees exercise service to very deserving kids in the community, but they learned a lot about providing service to each other.
Together, we have committed to growing, developing, and helping each other be the best people and the best company we can be by applying service as a daily practice which we will all work to improve upon each day - Paul Rothwell, Co-Founder and COO of SmartIT
Mindfulness and a breakout room challenge

Cultivating mindfulness means recognizing patterns that you fall into during each day and working to become less reactive; not recycling past assumptions or experiences. If we all take the time to become more present and start making mindful decisions, we will all see gains individually, collectively, and professionally and this will create opportunities which allow each of us to develop, improve, and grow.

Nine teams attended Breakout Room Challenges in both Cincinnati and Indianapolis to explore mindfulness. Breakout Room is a real-life escape room adventure, where teams work together to solve puzzles, crack codes, and find hidden clues to escape their challenge room in under 60 minutes.
The challenge forced everyone to apply the concept of Mindfulness. It required teams to be acutely aware of surroundings, teammates, and clues at all times to be “in-the-moment” and make the best decisions utilizing full awareness of surroundings.
Appreciation and Cincinnati reds game

Appreciation is a key value to how we will Empower Good People to do Great Things. We’re all in this together, and the more we support, encourage, and recognize each other will directly determine how deeply we each connect to and feel part of a more positive, loyal, and productive workplace.

results and Trivia game day

At SmartIT, we recognize that before you can expect the right results – you need to get the right people, working for the right reasons, with the right tools. We believe in measuring results and holding members at all levels accountable.

Trust and scavenger hunt

Trust is to lead through action with honesty, integrity, hard work, and character. SmartIT values the element of trust within the whole organization.

Employees participated in a team scavenger hunt across the office while having to trust in each one of their team members to do their part. Every member had a restriction and the other team member had to do what they couldn't.
