The Baker Blast Welcome Back Edition

Message from the Principal

Dear Baker Families,

I hope all of you are enjoying the final days of the summer break and look forward to another amazing school year. We are excited about our students returning for in-person learning. I would like to extend a warm Baker welcome to families that are new to Baker and our returning families.

As we prepare for the start of another exciting school year, I would like to share information about upcoming events. This edition of the Baker Blast will include information about the start of the school year to help you navigate through this process. I am truly honored to serve as your principal and proud to work with a staff that is dedicated to making this year special for our students! I look forward to the great things that are ahead!

Parent Communication

Most parent communications will be included in the Baker Blast. The Baker Blast is our weekly newsletter that is sent out using School Messenger and Twitter. If you were subscribed to School Messenger last year (either at Baker or your child’s elementary school), then you are all set for this school year and don’t need to do anything. If you need to sign up for School Messenger, please contact the main office for more information 248-823-4600.

Schedule Pick-Up/Registration

August 19,2021

Parents please know that we do not mail a registration packet home. All registration information and forms are online. If you are unable to attend, please contact our secretary, Joan Pangrcic at jpangrcic@troy.k12.mi.us to schedule an individual time to pick up your child’s schedule.

Students that cannot attend Registration Day will have an opportunity to have their school/ID picture taken on our picture make-up day September 14th. If you cannot come at your designated grade’s time, you may come during a different time frame; however, you may have a little longer wait.

To avoid long lines, we are requesting that students/parents fill out all applicable forms in advance of registration and come to registration at the times listed above. If you have children in two or more grades you only need to come once. We will be able to accommodate them at one time.

Student Fines

Student fines that were not paid from previous school years are collected at registration. This includes Media Center fines. If your student has unpaid fines, we can accept cash, or a check made payable to Baker Middle School at registration.

As a part of the schedule pickup/registration process, we will have 3 photography stations set up in the gymnasium. All students will take a picture and receive a school ID. These pictures will be used in our yearbook and Powerschool data base. If you are unable to attend registration, there is a picture make-up day September 14th.

Character Education

Baker Middle School Character Traits

Baker Middle School is recognized as a Promising Practice School by Character.org. Our Character Education is imbedded in all we do at Baker. All Baker Bobcats will focus on the character traits: Accountability, Open-Mindedness, and Kind. Throughout the year you will see us referencing these terms and recognizing students for exhibiting these characteristics. If you have any questions regarding our character education, please contact Mr. Cross (jcross@troy.k12.mi.us), Mrs. Conaton (cconaton@troy.k12.mi.us), or our innovation coach Mr. Schmidt (jschmidt@troy.k12.mi.us) to learn more.
