A Cracking Start!

Dear OFS Community,

There is nothing that compares to the first day of the Summer Term but this one felt infinitely more special as we begin to truly take stock of everything that has happened over the past year. It felt so good to come together and whilst I am very aware that for parents this is not yet possible, the countdown has begun!

It is only the farmer who faithfully plants seed in Spring, who reaps a harvest in Autumn.

These words prompted my opening message to the school as we prepare to give our very all, both in and out of the classroom. Before the half term break, I have challenged the school to stress test our learning from the past term, getting our hands up, asking more questions than the teachers and making the very most of classroom time – we need to own our learning, in the same way that we owned our free time in lockdown!

Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘let’s party!’.

Robin Williams

This was a great way to close Monday’s message, our second half of term is going to be a celebration of everything that we have missed over the past year and hopefully, all going to plan, we will all be able to come together for some of these events!

I am sensing the sheer joy about returning – my post that I sent on Tuesday, that was relatively short, received 559 views and 43 ‘likes’ in less than 24 hours.

To put that into perspective, my end of term post has received a total of 347 views and 15 ‘likes’ over the past month – I think that sends a clear view about which direction we are looking in and the sense of relief to put things behind us…I'll repeat the words from Robin Williams:

Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘let’s party!’.

Hallelujah for Sport!

On Wednesday afternoon, it was wonderful to have so many pupils and staff out on the pitches, with cricket, athletics and swimming kicking off…

Oops, that went all the way and did make contact with a parent's alloy wheel...
Great advice from Mr King...
I like the grit and determination!
Literally reaching for the stars!
That's focus right there...
Go Mr King...we're all listening...
Well...I was sort of listening!?!
Ava went on to beat me with her first throw...she clearly was listening to Mr King!
...truly airbourne!
We're all watching the ball...

Mr Chatzianastasiou invited his Y6 Team to explore the meadow in search of minibeasts.

They threw themselves in like I have never seen before, overcoming any fears or initial reservations!
I cannot express how delighted, thankful and grateful we all are to be back in school - gratitude is the true antidote to entitlement, and just perhaps that might be a lasting remedy to so many of the ills in today’s life! Thank you for being the wonderful community that you are – it’s humbling to look back on the past year and I truly hope that we are able to celebrate all that has been, in the term ahead!
