Falcons Agree to Terms With BRuce Irvin

The Falcons have agreed to terms with defensive end Bruce Irvin.

“We know exactly how Bruce will fit into our team on the field, and just as importantly into our locker room,” said Head Coach Dan Quinn. “He will add to our rotation along the defensive line, while adding to our pass rush. He is familiar with our scheme and we are familiar with his strengths, so we are looking forward to getting him on the field as soon as possible.”

Irvin was originally selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the 2012 draft. During his rookie season, the Stockbridge, GA native saw action in 16 games and racked up a career-high eight sacks, while chipping in 17 total tackles, and one forced fumble. Irvin’s performance during his rookie season saw him selected to the NFL’s All-Rookie Team.

Irvin played in 58 games with 37 starts for the Seahawks during his four season with the team, racking up 143 total tackles, 22.0 sacks, three interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

Head Coach Dan Quinn became Irvin’s defensive coordinator in Seattle in 2013. In two years under Quinn’s leadership, he racked up 8.5 sacks, 88 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions and helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII.

Irvin was signed by the Oakland Raiders in 2016, where he has spent the last three seasons.

The former West Virginia Mountaineer played in 40 games with 38 starts for the Raiders, tallying 121 total tackles, 18 sacks and 11 forced fumbles. Irvin’s six forced fumbles in 2016 were a career high and tied him with outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. for the league lead.
