What are some of its duties and responsibilities? The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) responsible for protecting animal health, animal welfare, and plant health.

How does this agency attempt to address market failures? They are partnered with the State Governments and the animal industries, so they have decreased the amount of diseases that kill or infect the livestock or goods. They have also been very involved with foreign affairs and trying to get the health and wellness of the products we get form over seas to ensure the public that the products are healthy.

What are some current issues that this agency is attempting to address? The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) plays a vital role in ensuring the free flow of agricultural trade. APHIS' efforts include keeping U.S. agricultural industries free from pests and diseases and certifying that the millions of U.S. agricultural and food products shipped to markets abroad meet the importing countries' entry requirements. APHIS makes sure that all imported agricultural products shipped to the United States from abroad meet the Agency's entry requirements to exclude pests and diseases of agriculture.
