The Lost Hero Author: Rick riordan

The genre of this book is fiction. Fiction means fake just like the magic act below.

Here is a short biography of the author RIck RIordan.

Setting: Takes place in present time and in the Grand Canyon, Camp Half Blood (New York), Chicago, Quebec, San Francisco, and Detroit.

Summary: There are three main characters in this book. Their names are Leo, Jason, and Piper. They think they are just normal misbehaving teens but in reality they are demigods. That means that one of their parents a god. They become close friends to help battle the evil forces against them.

Character Summaries: Leo Valdez is one of the seven heroes of the Prophecy of Seven. He plays one of the most important roles in the prophecy. He is a Greek demigod, the son of Hephaestus and Esperanza Valdez. He is currently in a relationship with Calypso. He seems very sneaky at first around new people but eventually opens up when he gets to know them.

Jason Grace: Jason is nothing more than a placeholder for Percy Jackson. At the end of the book Percy comes in and Leo and Piper go with him. Jason is pretty much forgotten in this book. Annabeth tells him he is a plot device rather than a person. Jason on the other hand is a pretty brave and nice guy. He likes to help when he can. He is dating Piper McClean.

Piper McClean: She is Jason's current girlfriend even though he doesn't remember when they started dating. She always loves looking at his sky blue eyes so she must have a thing for blue eyes. Piper is the daughter of Aphrodite. She is loyal to Jason after all of the guys try to flirt with her because they think she is beautiful too.

Primary Conflict: There are many conflicts in this book. The main conflict to me would have to be the prophecy. The prophecy states that Leo will destroy Gaea (Earth) with his ability to control fire. This of course takes him for a shock so he tries not to use his ability at all. Eventually it becomes too much for him and he needs major help. The "Physician" helps him.

Quotes:

1.) "He woke in the backseat of a school bus, not sure where he was, holding hands with a girl he didn't know" ( 1 ). This quote is significant because it starts at not knowing who he is and it sets the tone for the beginning of the book.

2.) "Leo was no help. He was too busy building a helicopter out of pipe cleaners" ( 13 ) This quote is important because this really opens the reader's mind to think why is this important but it really helps the characters out later in the story.

Vocabulary Words:

1.) Sundial- An instrument that tells the time of day by using the sun to cast a shadow on a plate.

2.) Mythology- A set of myths that relate to a certain group.

3.) Gaea- The Greek Goddess of Earth. They often referred to her as Earth herself.

4.) Diablo- A term for the devil.

5.) Eternal- It means to last forever, without beginning or end.

My Evaluation- This book is a really great book for anyone who has ever liked mythology or gods in general. Since it is fiction the story can start and end anywhere or even go anywhere in the middle of it. I would recommend this book to anyone that has liked ancient Greece, Gods, or mythology.
