Aggrega8 for Illinois Harvest of the Month A partnership between FarmLogix and Seven Generations Ahead

About ILLINOIS Harvest Of The Month

Illinois Harvest of the Month celebrates a different in-season, locally grown food item every month. Registered school districts, early care sites, and other food service programs receive a seasonal calendar of suggestions for what to feature, then choose what works best for them. It’s a free and flexible way to buy and serve more local food while teaching students about healthy eating, nutrition, and agriculture!
Illinois Harvest of the Month is a program of Seven Generations Ahead, a non-profit organization based in Oak Park, IL, that supports healthy and sustainable communities. Seven Generations Ahead maintains the Illinois Farm to School Network and serves as the National Farm To School Network’s Core Partner in Illinois.
Seven Generations Ahead is pleased to partner with FarmLogix to help make the suggested Harvest of the Month items easier for foodservice buyers to procure through broadline and produce distributors.

About Aggrega8

Aggrega8 is an online platform that allows participating school districts and early care providers to easily find local producers for seasonal Harvest of the Month items. The products you order are then brought to your distributor’s warehouse and will be delivered and billed by your distributor. Because the platform aggregates demand from multiple buyers, foodservice receive a better price (and farmers see higher demand, too!). Should you prefer a one-on-one relationship with a local farm, the platform also allows buyers to purchase directly from a chosen producer.

Foodservice buyers place weekly orders for the following month. This allows schools to menu plan, farms to plan their harvest schedule, and distributors to arrange logistics. There will be 5-8 options of seasonal, local items available each month, as well as a regionally-produced No Antibiotic Ever poultry option. You will be able to identify the farm and see the number of miles to your location with every order.

You also will be provided with an online dashboard to run reports and download marketing to promote your efforts to students, parents, and the community.

Aggrega8 is a product of FarmLogix, which has run the Farm To School program for Chicago Public Schools since 2013, putting $15M into the local Midwest economy.

How To Get Started

As A District

Click here or go to www.harvestillinois.org/aggrega8 to sign up for the free platform. Before you join the Aggreg8 platform, please be sure to register for Illinois Harvest of the Month at www.harvestillinois.org. Once your application is received, we will let you know if your distributor has joined the program. If they have, you can receive your local items with your regularly scheduled delivery. However, districts whose distributors do not already use Aggreg8 can still connect with and buy from local growers using the platform.

Food service buyers place weekly orders for the following month from an online dashboard. The deadline is the 20th for the following month’s orders, but you are able to save your work and submit anytime before the deadline.

As A Distributor

Click here or www.harvestillinois.org/aggrega8 to sign up. As a Distributor you can process orders from your school customers for local product. Orders are collected monthly in advance, so you will receive all orders 2-4 weeks in advance. Products are delivered 1-2x weekly, just prior to your scheduled delivery days for each school district.

The beauty of the Aggrega8 program is that the program is turnkey, and all products you receive are pre-sold and arrive as a cross-dock. You also can manage the entire system from your online dashboard. You are welcome to use our sources, or substitute or add your own.

As A Farm

Farmers or food hubs can sign up for free to sell into the program here or at www.harvestillinois.org/aggrega8. Farms must be Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certified to sell through distributors, but farms without GAP can still directly connect with school districts through the platform.

When you join the Aggreg8 platform, you will be asked about what you grow, minimum and maximum volumes per sale, and logistics options. This helps us find a best fit for your products. Uploading photos and/or a short video on your farm is also required so students can meet those that grow their food!

Reports on contributions to the Midwest economy by participating districts can be run by each participant or by the entire program
