Welcome to Reception, our topic this half term is, 'Fantastic Families'.
Welcome back to school or Home Learning! During this half term we will continue to focus on mental health and well-being and confidence building, as well as key skills in reading, phonics, maths and writing. Also, we will be continuing to follow the Golden Rules (don't forget, if you're at home completing Home Learning, remind your grown ups of the Golden Rules) and remembering how to wash our hands properly, don't forget to sing Happy Birthday whilst washing them.
Don't forget about our twitter page! We love seeing all of the incredible things that you get up to at home during Home Learning. Therefore, please continue to tweet all your fabulous work so your friends in school can see what you are doing. Families can find out more information about Reception learning, activities and how to help at home on our twitter feed @ReceptionWia
During these colder months, please ensure your child arrives to school warmly dressed due to the windows being open in class for extra ventilation (an undergarment such as a vest or t-shirt).
n line with our current COVID-19 risk assessment, we are asking grown ups to dress their child appropriately enabling the child to independently get dressed and undressed. This includes, mittens, zips, shoe laces etc... Please label all items of clothing.
All of your child's belongings will now be stored on their chairs, therefore please ensure they bring in only the items that are necessary for their time in school.
The Healthy Me
Our PE day is a Thursday. As it is incredibly cold, I can wear my PE kit to school including joggers and a jumper to help keep me warm.
In PE I will be continuing to explore my amazing gymnastic skills, using large apparatus. I will practise going under, over, through and around the equipment. If you're doing PE at home, you could design and create your own apparatus, using household furniture.
In Religious Education I will explore Lent and what actions we can do to help others who need help. I will also think about our Christian Values and what Christians do to make themselves better for God.
In school, I will continue to explore the Jigsaw PSHE program to support my mental health and well-being. If you're at home, remember to go for long walks and concentrate on your mental health and well-being too.
During the program, I will explore the importance of keeping myself healthy and how I can achieve this. I will discuss healthy eating, exercising my body, sleep and keeping clean.
The Independent Me
This half term we will be exploring Mrs Thrivilas' favourite story "Hattie Peck The Journey Home" by Emma Levey.
Through this core text and our core stories, I will listen to stories and learn to accurately anticipate key events and respond with relevant questions, comments or actions. I will use past, present and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future. I will develop narratives and explanations by connecting ideas and events. If you're at home completing Home Learning, please continue to sign in to our Blog on Purple Mash every day 9.00-9.15 to enable the children to have an open conversation and discussion with their friends in school. This will also help the children develop the key skills that they will learn this half term.
During planned story time I will explore the stories:
A Great Big Cuddle by Michael Rosen
Hattie Peck by Emma Levey
Home by Carson Ellis
The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers
The Good Samaritan- Bible story
Through reading, I will demonstrate an understanding of what I have read when talking to others.
I will read and understand simple sentences.
I will use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately.
The Creative Me
This half term I will be exploring the artist David Hockney and the techniques he uses to create landscape art work, including photography collage. If you're completing Home Learning, be as creative and imaginative as you like. Don't forget to send us your incredible masterpieces so we can look at them with your friends in school.
In music, I will explore a range of different artists and music and find a pulse to simple nursery rhymes and copycat rhythms. I will explore high and low pitch using improvisation with voices and create my own sounds using instruments. If you're completing Home Learning, find your favourite song and explore it. Find the pulse, explore the pitch and listen and identify the instruments that are used in the song.
The Inquisitive Me
In numeracy we will be exploring addition and subtraction with numbers up to 10 using 10 frames and the part-whole method. Don't forget to look at the videos on Purple Mash to help you. Home Learning can be difficult and strange for your child. Therefore, try and make it as fun as possible. Use their favourite toys and items from the outside area when solving calculations with the 10 frames and part-whole method. Maybe, when it's not raining, you could take their learning outside and draw a 10 frame and part-whole method on the ground with chalk.
I will use the environment to explore 2D and 3D shapes. Can you be a shape spy? Go on a hunt around your house and gather items that are 2D and 3D shapes.
I will continue to explore my body and discuss how I can keep it healthy. Through this I will grow various spring vegetables including potatoes.
