Purakanui Falls By Farrin Quin

Purakaunui falls is a beautiful place where the water flows straight off the purakaunui river. It is a 3 tiered waterfall that is 20 meters high complete with a walking track a car park, bathrooms and a picnic area.

Purakaunui falls is one of Otago most photographed sights often see on postcards and calendars it's more popular for photographers to visit during autumn with the different array of coloured leaves and forestry surrounding it.

The track can be used by both able and disabled people as the track is nice and even with a few steps along the way. Although purakaunui falls is part of the waterways it is not able to be swum in.

Purakaunui falls is an 1hr and a ½ drive from either Dunedin or invercargill or 17kms from a small town called Owaka close to Tahakopa Bay at the bottom of the South Island.
