IRWIN ELEMENTARY REPAIR FWCS Building Renovation
RENOVATIONS AT irwin elementary SCHOOL OCCURRED OVER 2 summers STARTING IN 2014, WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE WORK COMPLETED BY THE FALL OF 2015. WORK INCLUDED BOTH EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE facility, the original portion of which opened in 1927.
Renovated classrooms received new, energy-efficient lighting systems, quieter and more efficient unit ventilators for heat and added air-conditioning, and updated finishes and teaching infrastructure.
Original plaster walls that had been cracked and peeling due to years of temperature variation were patched and repainted. New windows and temperature controls systems provided added protection against damage from the outside elements.
Added storage options were provided in the classrooms, and new doors and hardware replaced worn and broken systems. Classroom doors received security locksets which are easily locked from the inside of the room in case of an emergency situation.
