A Start For A New Life german immigration

my great great grandfathers journey had a rough start he had little boy with him who was only 2 years old his mother had died of illness and the grave task was left in the hands of a man who had no idea what he was doing. He was tasked of getting to the United States of America for a better life. like many other immigrants he had passed through ellis island. I dont know much about his trip through Elllis island besides he and his son made it through.

They had traveled all the way from Germany to New York now to Jacksonville Florida were they would settle down and buy a house. In 1941 at the age of 23 he enlisted in the armed forces were he flew as a gunship pilot in world war 2. He had acquired two silver stars of heroism, a purple heart, and a distinguished flying cross of heroism. During his service he flew 35 missions out of Guam and was the first to complete those 35 missions. He was then discharged for flying the total amount of missions.

After his time in the air force. he went back to Jacksonville Florida and became a farmer. He married Ruth Cesaroni who was from Italy. He was married happily and had six children all of them surviving. One of his children is my grandfather and he followed in his fathers footsteps and became a Green Baret. My great grandfather didnt do much after his children grew up he stayed in Jacksonville and his children took care of them same as he did for them.

He died on October 10th 2013 and was buried honorably in his home town as a local war hero.
