Upper Sioux Agency State Park
The Upper Sioux Agency State Park is located just south of Granite Falls. It is a stunning park and campground that spans 1,280 acres and many different natural habitats including prairie knolls, wooded slopes, and rocky bluffs. Exploring the park is fun on skis, on foot, and even on horseback.
The Upper Sioux Agency State Park isn't just a campground, though - it also marks the site of the Yellow Medicine Agency, established by a treaty with Dakota Indians from Iowa, and destroyed during the U.S. - Dakota War.

The Andrew J. Volstead House
Representative Andrew J. Volestead, the architect of the famous Volstead Act (also know as the National Prohibition Act), moved to Granite Falls in Yellow Medicine County in 1886.
His Granite Falls home was privately owned until 1974 when it was put on the National Registry of Historical Places. It was made into a museum five years later. Tours are available and the Volstead House is open Thursdays and Fridays from 1-5 p.m., Saturdays from 11-4 p.m., and by appointment for groups of 10 or more. 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act. Check out the many events being hosted throughout the year.
The Lund-Hoel House is located in Canby. It was built in 1881 and the main portion of the house was constructed in just 49 days! Every bedroom that isn't a part of the servants' quarters has its own balcony. It wasn't designed with continuity in mind, so it is fascinating to see.
The Lund-Hoel House is truly stunning. The best way to experience it is by stepping inside! Tours can be requested during warm weather months.
