Get outdoors! Yellow Medicine County has so much natural beauty and is overflowing with recreational activities. There are many parks, such as the Upper Sioux Agency State Park and Stone Hill Regional Park, as well as the beautiful Scenic Byway.

Upper Sioux Agency State Park

The Upper Sioux Agency State Park is located just south of Granite Falls. It is a stunning park and campground that spans 1,280 acres and many different natural habitats including prairie knolls, wooded slopes, and rocky bluffs. Exploring the park is fun on skis, on foot, and even on horseback.

The Upper Sioux Agency State Park isn't just a campground, though - it also marks the site of the Yellow Medicine Agency, established by a treaty with Dakota Indians from Iowa, and destroyed during the U.S.-Dakota War.

Stone hill regional park

Stone Hill Regional Park has camping through the spring, summer, and early fall. It's a beautiful area on Del Clarke Lake. There are biking and hiking trails, water access, a beach, and even a playground.

The Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway is the perfect day-long road trip, especially if the day turns out rainier than you plan. Using this interactive map, you can choose an area to explore, and then get all the info you need to discover fun sights to see, or parks to get out at to stretch your legs! Plus, looking at the interactive map here on Western Minnesota Prairie Waters and find restaurants and shops (as well as other attractions) along your way!

The Andrew J. Volstead House

Representative Andrew J. Volestead, the architect of the famous Volstead Act (also know as the National Prohibition Act), moved to Granite Falls in Yellow Medicine County in 1886.

His Granite Falls home was privately owned until 1974 when it was put on the National Registry of Historical Places. It was made into a museum 5 years later. Tours are available and the Volestead House is open 11am to 3pm on Saturdays from Memorial Day to October 15th and by appointment for groups of 10 or more. Plus, there is a Halloween event every year!

Lund-Hoel House

The Lund-Hoel House is located in Canby. It was built in 1881 and the main portion of the house was constructed in just 49 days! Every bedroom that isn't a part of the servants' quarters has its own balcony, and it wasn't designed with continuity in mind, so it is fascinating to see.

The Lund-Hoel House is truly stunning. The best way to experience it is by stepping inside! Tours can be requested during warm weather months (must be above 60 degrees) with this link.

Prairie's Edge Casino

The Prairie's Edge RV Park, Entrance, and Firefly Lounge.

Prairie's Edge Casino Resort is located just outside Granite Falls. It is great place to have fun, but also grab a drink, or see a performance; plus, it is even a beautiful hotel with a pool area, sauna, and fitness area, and wireless internet in every room.

There are also several dining options including the Firefly Lounge, which is great for a drink and an appetizer, The Meadows Restaurant -Buffet for any meal of the day, and even the Wotapi Deli, a 24 hour restaurant . Getting something to eat, and then seeing a show or attending an event can be the perfect evening.

Canby's Hat Daze

Father's Day Waffle Feed

Canby’s Hat Daze is a week of community, great food, and a wonderful airshow. The downtown art display is beautiful and fun to explore, especially with the family! It takes window shopping to a whole new level. There are lots of community meals, like the waffle feast, exciting music, a baseball game, and even a parade! With lots of events for children to get active, learn, and have fun, Hat Daze is a great event for the whole family.

Western Fest in Granite Falls

Granite Falls’ Western Fest Stamped Rodeo is an amazing event for the whole family. The food from concessions is delicious, the beer is cold, and the rodeo is thrilling! There are also pony rides before the rodeo, and a street dance Friday night.

Cattle Roping!

There are hours of events at the rodeo: cattle roping, broncos, bulls, and even mutton busting for the kids!

Wood Lake Community Fair

Wood Lake may be small, but it knows how to celebrate big time! The community fair close to the end of the summer has everything: pig races, a concessions stand, and a car show. Children and adults alike can have fun at this annual community fair.
