Wildly Cold A winter walk through a sparsely-visited Lincoln Park Zoo on a January day.

By Meredith Francis

Temperatures only reached the teens on Wednesday, Jan. 4. But that didn't keep some people from fighting their instincts to stay warm and explore the zoo on a frigid day.

The gray seal, a native of the chilly North Atlantic, didn't seem to mind the 19-degree weather.
A couple braces against the wind.
Ice frozen over the window of the polar bear exhibit blocked the view. But there wasn't much to see, as even the polar bears were inside.
For many visitors, the inside exhibits provided shelter from the cold - and close encounters with smart phones.
AND SOME OF THE ANIMALS WERE POISED AND READY FOR THEIR PICTURES.
Despite the cold, Wednesday seemed like a good afternoon for a date.
But as the late afternoon rolled in, some animals had a date with lunch.
As the sun sunk lower into the sky, one visitor went home unaware of an important missing piece of winter clothing.
