Leadership Project: Hat and Gloves Drive

Over the past few weeks I have been collecting new or gently used hats, gloves, and scarves, to donate to Worcester Public Schools. I first came up with this idea when the cold weather started to arrive because I knew some children are less fortunate than others and do not have the winter gear they need. I was looking for places or organizations to donate these items to and I thought, what was better than elementary schools in the city? Some children in Worcester walk to and from school while others have to walk to bus stops. I knew the children of Worcester would definetly use and need some new winter gear for this season. I called the administrative office of Worcester Public Schools and asked if they would like to receive the donations of my hats and glove drive. The woman happily accepted and told me she was very glad I put this together for the kids.

I got the word out about this drive by posting some information about it on Facebook, putting fyers in public places around the town of Upton, and reaching out to some family and friends asking for donations.
I recieved some help with putting this project together from my close friends, Hannah Drainville and Jordan Utter and my sister, Meghan Schrafft. We put a large cardboard box in the lobby of the Upton Fire Department for people to place their donations in while we also reached out to family and friends asking for donations. With the help of my parents, friends, and family, I collected 45 hats, 25 pairs of gloves, and 11 scarves.
These are the hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves that I collected.

After completing this project, my eyes have been opened to all the less fortunate students and families in our community. It warmed my heart when giving the kids these hats and gloves as I knew they would be putting them to great use this winter. The smiles on their faces when recieving the new apparel were priceless. The administration members of Worcester Public Schools were very thankful for the drive I put together and told me they do not receive donations this large that often so it would really help their community. I am happy to say I created and lead a successful donation that made an impact on the Worcester community.
