Transcendence A collection of songs

Transcendentalism is the divinity and truth found in nature, and celebrating leading a simple life, without trivial everyday items that control our lives today.

Something Wild

Lindsay SterLing ft. Andrew Mcmahon

You had your maps drawn,

You had other plans

To hang your hopes on

Every road they let you down felt so wrong

So you found another way

You've got a big heart

The way you see the world

It got you this far

You might have some bruises

And a few of scars

But you know you're gonna be okay

Even though you're scared

You're stronger than you know

If you're lost out where the lights are blinding

Caught in all, the stars are hiding

That's when something wild calls you home, home

If you face the fear that keeps you frozen

Chase the sky into the ocean

That's when something wild calls you home, home

Sometimes the past can

Make the ground beneath you feel like a quicksand

You don't have to worry

You reach for my hand

And I know you're gonna be okay

You're gonna be okay

Even though you're scared

You're stronger than you know

If you're lost out where the lights are blinding

Caught in all, the stars are hiding

That's when something wild calls you home, home

If you face the fear that keeps you frozen

Chase the sky into the ocean

That's when something wild calls you home, home

Calls you home x4

If you're lost out where the lights are blinding

Caught in all, the stars are hiding

That's when something wild calls you home...

If you're lost out where the lights are blinding

Caught in all, the stars are hiding

That's when something wild calls you home, home

If you face the fear that keeps you frozen

Chase the sky into the ocean

That's when something wild calls you home, home

Something wild

To me, this song depicts escaping from boring old every day life through nature and imagination. The imagery in this song such as the lyric "If you're lost out where the lights are blinding, caught in all the stars are hiding, that's when something wild calls you home." Is an example of the truth, or calmness of something, in this case nature, bringing you back home.

"The earth has its music for all who will listen" -George Santayana

Crazy = Genius

Panic! At the disco

You can set yourself on fire

You can set yourself on fire

She said at night in my dreams

You dance on a tightrope of weird

Oh but when I wake up

You're so normal that you just disappear

You're so straight like commuters

With briefcases towing the line

There's no residue of a torturer

Inside of your eyes

She said you're just like Mike Love

But you wanna be Brian Wilson, Brian Wilson

She said you're just like Mike Love

But you'll never be Brian Wilson

And I said

Hey ay ay, hey ay

If crazy equals genius

Hey ay ay, hey ay

If crazy equals genius

Then I'm a freaking arsonist

I'm a rocket scientist

Hey ay ay

If crazy equals genius

You can set yourself on fire

But you're never gonna burn, burn, burn

You can set yourself on fire

But you're never gonna learn, learn, learn

Hey!

She said, "Darlin', you know

How the wine plays tricks on my tongue

But you don't seem to change

When you stuff all of your feelings with drugs

Other boys you may have dated

Serrated your heart with a slice

But the cut of your love never hurts

Baby, it's a sweet butter knife

She said you're just like Mike Love

But you wanna be Brian Wilson, Brian Wilson

She said you're just like Mike Love

But you'll never be Dennis Wilson

And I said

Hey ay ay, hey ay

If crazy equals genius

Hey ay ay, hey ay

If crazy equals genius

Then I'm a freaking arsonist

I'm a rocket scientist

Hey ay ay

If crazy equals genius

You can set yourself on fire

But you're never gonna burn, burn, burn

You can set yourself on fire

But you're never gonna learn, learn, learn

Hey!

You can set yourself on fire

You can set yourself on fire

You can set yourself on fire

You can set yourself on fire

And I said

Hey ay ay, hey ay

If crazy equals genius

Hey ay ay, hey ay

If crazy equals genius

Then I'm a freaking arsonist

I'm a rocket scientist

Hey ay ay

If crazy equals genius

You can set yourself on fire

But you're never gonna burn, burn, burn

You can set yourself on fire

But you're never gonna learn, learn, learn

Hey!

Crazy = Genius

To me this song depicts the importance of being your own person and expressing yourself through creativity and being different from the rest. "At night in my dreams you dance on a tightrope of wierd, oh but when I wake up your so normal that you just disappear, your so straight like commuters with briefcases towing the line, there's no residue of a torturer inside of your eyes." This song is about a woman telling her romantic partner about how he is so normal and boring because he doesn't use his imagination. She says that "you could set yourself on fire but your never gonna burn burn burn." This means that even if he were to set himself on fire, nothing exciting would happen, he wouldn't even burn.

Sabrina Carpenter

Somewhere in the world there, is a father and a mother

And the father is a son, who has a mother

The mother has a daughter who gets married to the brother of a mother

And they all just tryna multiply with one another

'Cause that's just the way of the world

It never ends till the end, then you start again

That's just the way of the world

That's just the way of the world

Somewhere in the world, they think they're working for themselves

They get up everyday to go to work for someone else

And somebody works for them and, so, they think they got it made

But they're all just working to get paid the very same

And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum

They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum

And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum (skiddly-dee-da-dum)

They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum

And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum

They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum

And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum (skiddly-dee-da-dum)

They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum

Somewhere in the world, you got a robber and a bank

And the bank robbed the people, so the people rob the bank

And the police came to get him, but they let him get away

'Cause they're all just workin' to get paid the very same

'Cause that's just the way of the world

It never ends till the end, then you start again

That's just the way of the world

That's just the way of the world

And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum (skiddly-dee-da-dum)

They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum

And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum (skiddly-dee-da-dum)

They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs

Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum

ThumBs

To me this song perfectly captures the relatable feeling that is rebelling against society. The lyrics "That's just the way of the world, it never ends till the end then you start again." Creates an image of boring old everyday life. People get married, have kids, work for someone else until they die, and then the cycle starts all over again.

The Nights

AvIcIi

Hey, once upon a younger year

When all our shadows disappeared

The animals inside came out to play

Hey, when face to face with all our fears

Learned our lessons through the tears

Made memories we knew would never fade

One day my father—he told me,

"Son, don't let it slip away"

He took me in his arms, I heard him say,

"When you get older

Your wild life will live for younger days

Think of me if ever you're afraid."

He said, "One day you'll leave this world behind

So live a life you will remember."

My father told me when I was just a child

These are the nights that never die

My father told me

When thunder clouds start pouring down

Light a fire they can't put out

Carve your name into those shinning stars

He said, "Go venture far beyond the shores.

Don't forsake this life of yours.

I'll guide you home no matter where you are."

One day my father—he told me,

"Son, don't let it slip away."

When I was just a kid I heard him say,

"When you get older

Your wild life will live for younger days

Think of me if ever you're afraid."

He said, "One day you'll leave this world behind

So live a life you will remember."

My father told me when I was just a child

These are the nights that never die

My father told me

These are the nights that never die

My father told me

The nights

To me this song is about seizing the day and living life to the fullest while you can. "He said one day you'll leave this world behind, so live a life you will remember my father told me when I was just a child, these are the nights that never die." In Transcendentalism a common theme is to take charge of you own life, and be the one in control of your own destiny.

"Capre Diem. Seize the day boys. Make your lives extraordinary. The independent." -Robbin Williams, Dead Poet Society

Don't Wait

Joey Graceffa

I know you've got a strong heart

It's written in the stars

Behind the castle walls

You've hid your light

But when you let the past go

Your story unfolds

Look out your window

Into the night

The darkness can be such a lonely place on your own

I'll be your compass so you'll never feel alone

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Who says you can't explore?

Who says you can't explore?

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Find what you're looking for

Find what you're looking for

All the monsters in your head now,

Stare them all down

If they come back around

You'll be alright

And when the journey gets tough

Just know that you're enough

You're like a warrior

Keep up the fight

The darkness can be such a lonely place on your own

I'll be your compass so you'll never feel alone

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Who says you can't explore?

Who says you can't explore?

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Find what you're looking for

Find what you're looking for

Don't, don't, don't wait

Don't you wait, no

Don't, don't, don't wait

Don't, don't, don't wait

Don't you wait, no

Don't, don't, don't wait

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Who says you can't explore?

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Find what you're looking for

Find what you're looking for

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Who says you can't explore?

Who says you can't explore?

Don't wait for the world to be ready

Find what you're looking for

Find what you're lookin for

Don't wait

This song holds a very important place in my heart because of the message it sends to its listeners. You don't have to be what the world wants you to be, "Who says you can't explore? Don't wait for the world to be ready, find what your looking for." In Trancsendentalism "Civil Dissobediance" is calmly not following the laws deemed unjust by the people. This song relates to this by saying that you are capable of holding your life in your own hands, instead of entrusting it to someone else.

"Stop waiting for someone to save you. Be your own damn hero. Be your own reason to smile." -K.N.L
