Harbor House of louisville Adobe Spark: Strategic Brief

What is Adobe Spark?

Adobe Spark is a free online graphic design app. This site allows individuals to create images, videos and webpages that will help tell your own story. Adobe Spark encourages engagement and creativity, it is very pleasing to the eye and will certainly put you or your brand above others. Adobe Spark products include: Adobe Spark Page, Adobe Spark Post, and Adobe Spark Video.

For this assignment I will be focusing on Harbor House of Louisville, a local, non-profit organization that lights the way for adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. I chose Harbor House of Louisville because working with individuals with disabilities is something that is very dear to my heart and I hope one day to pursue working for a nonprofit organization like this. This organization provides a place for disabled adults to go. Participants are able to come and engage in special programs such as, job training, educational/tutoring classes, cooking classes, gardening, community integration, social skills, technology classes, therapeutic activities, arts and humanities, and more!

Did you know that March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness month?

adobe spark and your audience

Harbor House of Louisville targets not only adults with physical and cognitive disabilities, but their families as well. This organization works to empower participants and their families to lead fulfilled and productive lives. Using Adobe Spark would help Harbor House reach a greater audience because it is very visual, easy, and just awesome! With their focus being in Louisville, using this program will also allow them to post content about local events, attracting more of the local crowd. Adobe Spark allows content of all sorts to come together as one with little to no limitations. It allows you to be as creative as you want and I feel that the participants at Harbor House would really enjoy being able to easily scroll through and see everything from videos, blogs, pictures, graphics, quotes, etc*. Because Adobe Spark is so visually appealing it would also be a great way to attract volunteers, which is something every nonprofit relies heavily on.

Strategic mindset of a nonprofit

Strategic planning is the ability to come up with plans that are effective and follow an organization's objective. Strategic thinking helps business managers review policy issues, perform long term planning, set goals and determine priorities, as well as identify potential risks and opportunities. Nonprofits work hard to inform audiences of the organization’s activities, goals and getting people and businesses involved.

Below are statistics provided by the Nonprofit Finance Fund 2009 survey that tell the financial story of many non-profit organizations.

• 12% expect to operate above break even

• 31% do not have enough operating cash to cover one to three months of expenses

• 52% expect the recession to have long-term or permanent effects on their financial health

• 93% of life line essentials services organizations anticipate an increase in demand (with no increase in resources)

The bottomline is, nonprofits need a strong strategic mindset to help build a strong foundation. Harbor House has been fortunate enough to have strong businesses such as, Swope Family of Dealerships, partnering with Kentucky Derby Festivals, Republic Bank, UPS and many more.

Effective Strategy

An effective strategy that Harbor House can use is being more interactive on social media. They can do this by having contests and giveaways on social media, tag and hashtag local companies in their posts to help their reach and being more consistent with their posts. I think that their Instagram could become more consistent with their posts, for instance with the filters they use, the pictures that they post, and the collages they make. I also think this organization could utilize snapchat and be incredibly successful. Posting things from the participants perspective would be a fun and interactive for the participants and a great way to gain followers.
