Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio, April 27, 1822.

Ulysses's father was Jesse Root Grant and His mother was Hannah Simpson Grant. In his youth Grant was A shy child that took after his mother instead of his father. He did not want to take up his father's tannery business.

At the age of 17, Grant's father arranged for him to be enlisted in the United States Military Academy at West Point. When he signed up, an error occurred and his name was changed to Ulysses S. Grant. Not wanting to be rejected by the school, he stuck with the name.

After being married with his wife Julia for over 4 years they had 2 sons. He was sent to Fort Vancouver and missed his sons - one of which he hadn't seen yet - and became involved in failed business ventures in attempt to get his family closer to him. He started drinking and this ruined his reputation.

Ulysses is best known for being the general for the union during the Civil War. During post-war reorganization, he was promoted to full general of the United States military.

Though Grant was honest, he also became known for appointing people who had bad character. Because of this and other things he did not serve his third term.

During his presidency, Grant ratified the 15th amendment. This impacted America because it allowed African Americans to vote.

The thing i most admire about him is that he did not support slavery. This is one of the reasons Lincoln Supported him.
