Sunday Funday Students share their love for one of America’s pastimes

The age old sport of football is a pastime for millions of Americans. From the month of September to February, fans are glued to their TVs to watch their favorite teams play and outperform the other 31 team’s in what is known as the National Football League (NFL).

But out of the millions of Americans, three students from LZHS share their love for football and the entertainment they get from the NFL.

For Jessica Baltes, sophomore, her interest in the Chicago Bears started young. With her entire family always rooting for the Bears, she quickly developed a love for the team, according to Baltes. Whether it be going to Bears games or just watching football with her family, she believes it connects her family.
“I have to say the Bears are my favorite football team,” Baltes said. “Even though I only know a little about football, I think it’s so fun to choose a team at the beginning of the season and root for them throughout. It gives you something fun to look forward to, especially if you’re watching the NFL with your family or friends. It really brings everyone together.”
Jacob Davis, senior, enjoys football for other reasons than Baltes. He finds fun in watching the sport and spending time with his friends. Especially, during the Super Bowl, he enjoys playing small games to get him into the spirit of the game. Like Baltes, however, he gets his interest of the Minnesota Vikings from his family.
“I like the Vikings, because of my dad and uncle,” Davis said. “[During the Super Bowl] I get a big group of friends and we all place bets on the game as well as make the people who lose the bet do a really silly dare. [It’s a super fun time].”
Annabelle Harrison’s dad was always a football fan since she was younger. She enjoys going all out for Super Bowl parties with her family, and embraces her love for the Steelers.
“My dad has liked every Pittsburgh team since I was five and I’ve just grown up loving everything Pittsburg related, including the Steelers,” Harrison said. “We usually go to my uncle’s house for the super bowl and we eat Philly Cheesesteaks.”
