the great Gatsby Trinity crook

F. Scott Fitzgerald's book the great Gatsby is about a Man who was born poor and found love and dedicated his life to becoming rich to give her the life he wants with this girl. This theme is evident though the characters Gatsby and Daisy and the event when they meet again after not seeing each other for 5 years.

" "You must know Gatsby." "Gatsby" demanded Daisy. "What Gatsby?" " (Fitzgerald 11) This the first time Daisy has heard Gatsby's name in a long time and now she has just found out that he lives right across the ocean in West Egg.

" " He wants her to see his house," she explained. " And your house is right next door." ... " i think he half expected her to wander into one of his parties, some night." " (Fitzgerald 79) This shows how Gatsby wants Daisy to see that he is no longer poor and what he has built for him self.

"i told you whats been going on," said Gatsby. "going on for five year - and you didn't know." tom turned to Daisy "you've been seeing this fellow for five years?" "not seeing." said Gatsby. "no, we couldn't meet. But didn't know. I used to laugh sometimes"" (Fitzgerald 131) Gatsby is explaining to Tom that him and Daisy have loved each other for five years and wants daisy to leave tom so they can pick up where they left off and start a life together.

Charcterization: Gatsby

Direct "he smiled... it was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life." (Fitzgerald 48)

indirect " The friends looked out at us with the tragic eyes and short upper lips of southeastern Europe, and i was glad that the sigh of Gatsby splendid car was included in their comber holiday. " (Fitzgerald 69)

Charcterization: Jordan Baker

Direct "She was slender, small breasted girl, with an erect carriage, which she accentuated by throwing her body backward at the shoulders like a young cadet. Her grey sun-strained eyes looked back at me with polite reciprocal curiosity out of wan, charming, discontented face." (Fitzgerald 11)

Indirect "her grey, sun-strained eyes stared straight ahead, bur she had deliberately shifted our relations" ( Fitzgerald 58)

Symbol boat

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past" (Fitzgerald 180)

The quote i picked and picture are a good symbol for The Great Gatsby because, all Gatsby had wanted to do was recreate the past with Daisy. He beat currents, which is similar to the situations and things he had to go though to get this mansion and Daisy's attention. "Borne back ceaselessly into the past" All Gatsby wanted was to go back into the past. A boat is also a good symbol for the book because Dan Cody and Gatsby met on a boat and Dan Cody was the man that shaped Gatsby into the persona of a rich man even though he was still poor.
