I am writing to you after a busy and exciting final week of the holidays. It has been great to have some boys back in school for 11+ practice and to welcome the new Reception and Little Griffins boys for transitions days.
There are several different beginning of term items that I wanted to share with you to make sure that everyone has all the information they need for the first day. I have organised these below under appropriate headings.
We are pleased to have managed to continue to develop areas of the school over the summer. The outside of the Hall, Music room and PE store have been painted and we have installed Smart TVs in Year 1 and 2. We have other plans for the future but have halted all to focus on making sure we are ready for the boys' return.
Morning Start time and Drop Off
We are looking forward to welcoming the boys back safely and will be opening the gates as usual from 8:15am on Wednesday 9th September for drop off and they will close at 8:40am. This is a slight adjustment of 5 minutes to allow teachers to get to their classes in time for registration.
Little Griffins, Reception, Year 1 and 2 will enter via the Holiday Club Gate at the front of the School and Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 will enter via Western Elms.
Breakfast Club will be running from 7:45am and should be accessed via the Holiday Club Gate.
It is important when dropping your children, parents and pupils keep a social distance of 2 metres from each other. I am sorry to say that parents will not be allowed on site.
End of the Day Pick up
Pick up for LG, Rec, Y1 and 2 will be from the Holiday Club Gate at 3:45pm.
Pick up for Y3-6 will be from the Western Elms Gate at 3:55pm.
The gates will remain manned until 4:15pm after which all pupils will go to After School Care.
Pupils in day boarding will not mix between the Prep School and Pre-Prep bubble. Therefore, both gates will reopen at 5pm to allow pupils to leave by their designated exit. This will happen again at 5:50pm. We ask that you try to limit your pick up to these key times to allow us to keep the pupils safe. However, if there is an emergency and you need to pick your son up part way through a session, please go to the Main House Front door where a member of SLT will support you.
PE and Games
PE and Games will be running from the first day back. As boys will not receive their timetables until Wednesday 9th, I have outlined below the sports kit each class will need for the first week.
- Little Griffins – No kit required
- Reception – Pupils will require PE kits on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Year 1 - PE will be on Tuesday and Thursday
- Year 2 – Games on Monday, PE on Thursday
- Year 3 – PE on Wednesday. Games on Thursday and Friday
- Year 4 – PE on Monday. Games on Thursday and Friday
- Year 5 – PE on Monday. Games on Tuesday and Wednesday
- Year 6 – PE on Friday. Games on Tuesday and Wednesday
On days YR-6 have Games or PE they are to come to school in their kit to allow us to limit the need for pupils to move around the school site and the potential of bubbles mixing. This will be reviewed on weekly basis and we will aim to move back to pupils changing in school when it safe to do so.
If you are worried about what you kit you need. I have listed the kit they need below:
Rec- Year 2 PE Kit Only
- White School T-Shirt

- White Socks
- School Maroon Tracksuit
Year 3-6 PE Kit

- White Shorts
- White Socks

Year 3-6 Games Kit

Changing for Clubs
If pupils have an After School Club that requires them to change and this falls on a day they do not have PE or Games, they are to come to school in their uniform and their class teacher will allow them to change before the end of the day.
Prep School Classroom Equipment
Please can you ensure that if you son is in Prep school (Y3-6), they have a full pencil case ready for day 1. Mrs Andrew also requests that this also includes a blue Frixion pen for writing in English.
11+ support will be in place for Year 4 and 5 from the first week back. I will be writing to parents of these year groups shortly to invite you to a virtual talk on how we can support you and your son through the Senior School Process.
For Year 6, we have allocated 2 x 50 minute lessons a week to support them with their entry. I have had some requests from parents to revise homework for Year 6. We will be sending out a full homework timetable at the beginning of the term as not all Year 6s are sitting the Reading School exam. However, we understand that some boys are following revision programmes and we will be flexible with homework for those boys.
Individual music lessons are happening on Fridays. Mrs Hagyard only has a couple of spaces left. Please contact her if you would like any more information. email@example.com
Finally, I hope you are all prepared and excited about the first day of term. I look forward to seeing all the boys on Wednesday and saying hello to you on the gate. Please also remember that Celebration Assembly will continue to be shared each Friday at 8:50am via MS Teams.
Have a great last few days together as a family.
