The Rebel Report August 31, 2018

Above: 6th Graders had a blast with Jim "Basketball" Jones during an assembly earlier this week. His relationship-focused message resonated with our kids!

What a terrific first week! Your students spent the short week learning about our school community. Our teachers are just starting to learn about your kids and their passions. All of this is time well spent since strong, trusting relationships are at the core of all successful schools. We'll continue this next week as we begin to dig into our academic work.

This is a pretty info-packed Rebel Report-- read carefully and ask questions if you have them. Enjoy Labor Day Weekend-- see you Tuesday!

Next Week's Calendar

Troy School District is now using PowerSchool for all student data. Home Access Center (HAC) is no longer active. You should have received instructions via email to setup a new account for the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The access codes contained in the email can be used several times if more than one guardian wishes to have an account. If you did not receive the access codes, please contact the office and the staff can look up your codes. The Parent Portal will allow you to track grades and attendance for your students. Report Cards will also be posted to the portal. PowerSchool also has a free app available on both Apple and Android platforms. Once you have created an account, please go to your app store and search for PowerSchool Mobile. The app will ask for a 4 digit code. Troy’s code is BMMM. Please note – you must setup your account on the website before logging into the App. If you are having technical difficulties, please email parentportal@troy.k12.mi.us

New Parent Night - Wednesday

Parents new to the district should plan to attend our New Parent Night next Wednesday from 7-8 pm in the Collaboration Studio. We will cover some of the important items to help your student get off to a great start! 6th grade parents: if you attended the 5th grade parent night in the Spring, this will cover the same information.

Spring 2018 MSTEP Results

We recently received student score reports for the 2018 MSTEP test and will be mailing these within the next couple of weeks. Please note that 6th grade parents will receive MSTEP reports from the elementary school your student attended last year.

Mum Sale for DC Trip

There is a great opportunity to support the 8th Grade trip to Washington DC. Order forms are due to the Larson Office by September 10th. Checks only, please, made out to Larson PTO. These mums are huge and very nice, so no one will be disappointed. $7 cost, and $13 suggested sales point gives them $6 profit per mum. Anyone from Larson can buy, even if just for themselves to get fundraiser prices. Any questions, email ReneeMuter@aol.com.

Student Allergy/Food Items

Per usual, we have a variety of severe student allergies. Please avoid sending any peanut/tree nut items or fish in your student's lunch. This will significantly help in our efforts to make the cafeteria a safe place for all of our students. Thanks!

AM Drop Off Reminders

All in all, we did a pretty good job with AM drop-offs! Please remember to pull all the way forward. Students DO NOT have to be dropped off at the doors near the main office entrance. They may use the east side doors for entry as well.

Football Starts Tuesday! (6-8)

Boys' Football starts after school on Tuesday, September 4th. All students must have a completed physical on file before they will be permitted to participate. Students should report to the cafeteria after school on Tuesday. Life Skills Club is a project-based learning experience. The club will meet 2-3 times per month during semester 1. After much planning last year, this year Life Skills Club will also meet approximately 4 times before school to run the Breakfast Club. The Breakfast Club will include the running of a breakfast cafe. The Breakfast Cafe will be open to students and staff to purchase breakfast foods (such as pancakes) made by the Life Skills Club. The café will be completely run by the Life Skills Club- including planning, budgeting, set-up, cooking and clean-up. More information and a schedule can be found on our website.
