Elk's Student of the month

Citrus Springs Middle School is proud to announce that Troy Selah has been chosen as Elk’s Student of the Month for September 2017.

Troy is a 13-year-old 7th grade student at Citrus Springs Middle School and is the son of Rhiannon and Cole Connell of Dunnellon, Florida.

Troy transferred to Citrus County Schools from Marion County. Since he has been with us at Citrus Springs Middle School he has earned excellent grades and has gained honor roll status. Troy was the recipient of the Upward Bound Award presented by the Rotary Club due to his improved academic performance. Troy continues to strive for excellence and is helpful to his community by assisting others. Recently, Troy helped victims of Hurricane Irma by collecting supplies and delivering them to people impacted by the storms devastation. Troy also assisted his family in clearing debris to enable others in the community to get back to their homes. In his free time, Troy enjoys drawing, and being outdoors fishing and snorkeling. In the future Troy plans to follow in the footsteps of his older brother and attend Florida State Fire College where he aspires to gain the skills necessary to become a firefighter and a Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Officer.

A note from the ASSISTANT Principal ON CELL PHONES

Dear Parents,

If you have given your child a cell phone, it has more power to access and communicate information than the computer used to take our first astronauts to the moon. Cell phones provide access to amazing resources, but can also allow students to be involved in dangerous ways with the scariest people of the world. I believe what you put in your ears, your eyes, and your mind affects your heart and your brain and determines how you think and feel. It takes someone a second to access warped philosophy, profanity, pornography, and other despicable things. Once information enters the brain it does not just get a brain cleaning and everything is washed out. I know the cell phone has a lot of positives when used correctly for friendships and family to stay in touch and share events. Please, I ask that you check a lot with your students cell phone use, the danger and risk to your child’s life is too great to ignore.

Cell phones are not allowed to be visible on campus and students are permitted to use the school phones when situations arise that require them to call home.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hermann

academic recognition- A note from guidance

At CSMS we encourage our students to excel academically and we believe that recognizing student success is an essential part of maintaining their success. However, to protect instructional time in the classroom, students who successfully achieve honor roll status will be recognized quarterly on an informal basis at school. We will reserve time for students to participate in a ceremony who consistently achieve honor roll throughout the school year.

At the end of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter grading periods, students making honor roll will receive recognition and their names will be published in the Citrus County Chronicle. There will not be a 4th quarter honor roll, since grades are not completed until after students have left for the summer.

Following the completion of 3rd quarter, if your student has maintained their honor roll status for the first three quarters, then you will be invited to an honor roll program. Some students may also receive invitations due to excellence in other academic related endeavors. Invitations will be sent along with your student’s 3rd quarter report card.

Please encourage your child to set high academic standards and remember to recognize their effort and success!

Teresa Pettit and Debra Quertermous, CSMS Guidance Counselors
