There's a beast
Describe the Beast that seems to be stalking the island. Use the text as backup for your info. The beast is huge it is about 9 ft tall very hairy and has sharp teeth. This beast is faster than anything I have ever seen.It comes from the ocean and pounces around at night and is strong enough to take down a tree in a single hit.
Name at least two things the boys are doing or have given up that show how they are now operating on instinct and no longer trying to follow the rules of society. Explain your answers with information from the text. They are not to go out at night and Simon has been going out. They also didn't do their jobs because the twins didn't watch the fire and went hunting with Jack.
Two rituals people are most familiar with are weddings and funerals. Pick an event (a wedding or a funeral). Make a list of at least 3 phrases people use at the event you picked. Using one of your phrases, explain why your phrase is helpful in the situation.
Weddings have many rituals, some examples are. Will you take this lovely woman/man as your wife/husband, I do, and you may kiss the bride. When the preacher tells you that you may kiss the bride he is letting you release your emotion. It also lets you show everyone know that your bride is yours. Kissing the bride is also a ritual for most religions. It also conceals the wedding after the pastor/preacher is done talking. For some people kissing the bride is the first kiss for official love.
Choose a character, either Ralph or Jack and explain the effect seeing the Beast has on the character you have chosen. Use textual information to support your answer.
Jack and Ralph have two different view points about the beast before they went to kill it. Jack saw the beast as something he could kill. Now Jack is afraid of the beast and it causes a problem between Ralph and him. Jack was so devoted to killing the beast and now he wants to leave sacrifices for it so it doesn't kill them. Jack also wants everyone to forget the beast but he still thinks about it. They had the same view point after they ran from it. Now they are both afraid of it and decided to leave it alone but they broke away from each other.
Retell in your own words what has happened to Simon. Use textual evidence to help you create a vivid paragraph.
Simon was coming from the top of the mountain to tell everyone that there isn't a beast. Jacks tribe was doing a chant because it was raining and one of the younger kids said he saw the beast. They open up and let the beast come in and close the circle on him. They started to beat Simon thinking he was the beast and Simon tried to tell them there was no beast. No one was hearing him though so they beat him to death. After they saw the blood staining the sand. The ocean tide carried Simon's dead beaten body out to the ocean.
In life people create groups. These groups might be at school, in sports, in extracurricular activities, and through religious organizations. Explain what needs groups fill for people. Explain both the positive and negative aspects of being part of a group. You may relate this to our novel, or you may make it a person reflection of your own experience.
Gangs help people get money they need its not always in a good way but it helps the people in that neighborhood get money. Being in a gang can help you get money but it can also get you arrested. Rap groups help start up a career but when the group gets into a fight with each other they break up or no one will want to give them a contract for any records. When I ran track we listened to our coach and when we didn't everyone paid and when a meet came we didn't do our best that meet if some people do their part in the meet and in practice. Jack didn't do his part with getting saved and the tribe separated and don't get rescued until later.
“Which is better - to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?”
Using this quote, take a stand. Pick a side and explain why your decision is best on this island here at the end of Chapter 11. Don’t forget to use textual evidence to support your answer.
It is better to have rules and agree because there are less casualties when people are together. Jack made is own tribe and Piggy and Simon died because of the tribe which hunts and kills. The kid with the mulberry birthmark died before Ralph made any bigger rules."Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?(Golding 180)" The kids would have been fine with keeping law and order and not hunting. Jack was losing hope in being rescued and that could have caused him to be a savage other than just arguing with Ralph.
"Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!(Golding 186)
Jack became a savage with Rodger, Sam and Eric, and others. They all have painted faces and all they want to do is hunt and kill. Jack uses violence and lies for power. He tells everyone there is a beast to keep them scared and beats the little ones to show that he's chief. Jack and his tribe killed Simon and Piggy. The picture above shows how there faces are painted, how they are savages and how evil they are. Jack wants to kill Ralph as well but doesn't they get saved before he does.
Dear rising 8th grader,
I really enjoyed this novel. It had nonstop action it had a lot of plot twist and just caught my attention as a reader. It was heart moving in some parts of the novel and two heart dropping deaths. I liked it when Mrs. Lyda read it because she help explain some parts and made the novel sound more interesting. The adobe spark was also fun because it helped me put the book in my own words and pointed out any big events. The adobe spark also helped me predict some actions in the novel like Jacks decision to break away. This is a very great novel I believe you will love it.
