J.R.Briggs Family Newsletter September 19, 2018

The weeks are flying by this year. It is hard to believe we are already approaching the last days of September. By now, students and staff alike are getting used to their daily routines. Soon we will feel the change in temperature, allowing us to enjoy the crisp air of autumn. But before we say goodbye to all of the summer fun, we want to make sure you join us for Ready, Set, Glow!

Even though shirt orders have now closed, there is nothing stopping you from registering for the event. Please click the button below to see the registration form. The event takes place September 28th and will run from 6:30-8:00 PM.

There are numerous raffle items available at Ready, Set, GLOW as well! From a signed JD Martinez baseball to lift tickets at Mount Wachusett, there is clearly something for everyone to take a chance on. Click on the link below to see more.

Half Day Thursday

Please remember that next week there is a half day on Thursday, 9/27. Parent pick-up will begin at 11:50 and buses will be loaded around 12:00. Half days are always very busy in the office so it would help us so much if you let us know earlier rather than later if your child's method of dismissal is being changed. Please know that the Extended Day program is full for that day. Students who are already signed up for Extended for 9/27 should have ordered a lunch through them or should bring a lunch.

International Dot Day was a great success last Friday!

Parent teacher conferences will take place on October 11th and 18th. We are using an online system, Signup.com, to organize our conference sign-ups. You will receive an email Friday afternoon with the link to sign-up, and it will also be listed in the "quick links" on the school's web page. Signup.com allows you to choose your times and change them as needed. If you have any difficulty signing up for a slot, don't hesitate to contact your teacher or the main office for support.

Lines from the Art Room

I’d like to thank everyone who donated their $1.00 towards the purchase of art portfolios for the students. Each year I have a handful of people who donate an extra dollar or two to put toward portfolios for children in need. I can’t tell you how much it warms my heart to be lucky enough to work in a community that so clearly cares for one another. We are still accepting donations if anyone would still like to send theirs in. Thank you again!

Mrs. DiSalle, JRB Visual Art

Students from 3rd grade through 5th can sign up for our school band. Please find the enrollment flyer by clicking the button below. If you have questions, feel free to contact Chris Uminski, our band director. His email is cuminski@awrsd.org.

In addition to the band, students may also sign up for chorus in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Even though the group met last week, you can still sign up. Please contact Mrs. Lordan (mlordan@awrsd.org) with any chorus questions.

Materials Needed for Grade 5 Project

In September and October, all fifth-grade classes are working on Operation Welcome Mat, an effort to create “habitat enhancements” for our school nature trail, vernal pool, and science garden. We are looking for donations of the following supplies:

  • Mason jars
  • Gravel
  • Wood chips
  • Grape vines
  • Stepping stones, tiles, or pavers.

Please contact Mrs. Davis at tdavis@awrsd.org to arrange for drop off. Thank you!

Additionally, our Nature's Classroom Genevieve's Fundraiser is due October 3rd. The money raised in this fundraiser will help defer the cost of Nature's Classroom (fifth graders only), the NC scholarship fund, and the JR Briggs Enrichment Fund.

A view from the parking lot during Curriculum Night

Thank you to all of the parents/guardians that were able to attend the Curriculum Night last week. Parents were able to hear presentations from the classroom teachers, look through student work, and learn about the many day-to-day activities of each room.

We still have some mums and Montauk daisies for sale to benefit of the student enrichment fund. They are $20 first come first serve. See the main office.

The PTA has teamed up with the Worcester Railers to offer discounted tickets for opening night, October 20th. Use the button below to see the poster.
