Chaminade Gala Benefit and Auction
It was with a heavy heart that due to the public health advisories and developments regarding the coronavirus COVID-19, we made the difficult decision to cancel Chaminade’s Gala Benefit & Auction Moon River, scheduled for Saturday, March 14.
The Gala is our largest and most important fundraising event of the year as it provides essential support for Chaminade’s needs for the benefit of all our students across both campuses. Yet what truly makes this event so unique is our army of tireless and committed volunteers. They represent the heart and soul of our community and make Gala a memorable and meaningful event for our guests. The commitment of time, energy, and talent of our Gala chairs Karen Valentine and Helen Griffiths, committee leads, and a host of parent volunteers are a true testament to the family spirit that permeates our school. We are truly blessed.
We greatly appreciate our generous sponsors for their partnership in ensuring that Chaminade continues to offer the very best education rooted in our Catholic, Marianist tradition. We would also like to thank all of our guests who so generously donated their tickets to the Gala. These donations help provide Gala grants to each campus, enabling Chaminade leadership to address the needs of our students and teachers.

Rosie’s Gets a Facelift
When volunteers work at Rosie’s providing concessions for our athletic games, they rely on the guests to keep them in the loop on the game as they aren’t able to watch games from their vantage point. Volunteers were left in the dark as to how our Eagles were faring as they worked from the confines of Rosie’s. Not anymore!
Thanks to the generous support of the Crawshaw Family we now have new monitors and upgraded equipment that enable our dedicated volunteers, excited spectators and fans to view the games and activities taking place in the Uribe gym and on the Deep Blue C from Rosie’s.
The Marianist Classic hosted at Chaminade last November was livestreamed and could be viewed at Rosie’s by volunteers and spectators alike so nobody would ever miss a basket. Cheering for our Eagles just got easier. Go Eagles!

A Personal Mission for the Park Family
Over the past two weeks, Alexander ‘25, his sister Annamarie ‘26, and their mother Maree Park have made more than 120 medical face shields for local frontline doctors and staff to help address the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shortage caused by the spread of COVID-19.
They were inspired by their friend and dentist, Dr. Elena Rumack (also a Chaminade parent), who created a DYI video on how to make medical face shields. Dr. Rumak, like many in the health industry, was searching for a solution to help meet the demand for medical equipment and supplies desperately needed on the frontlines.
This concern hits particularly close to home for Annamarie and Alexander as their father, Dr. Maxwell Park, is a physician at Kaiser Permanente. They know first-hand the risk their father and many others take every day and want to help protect them so they can continue to save lives. The Park family plans to continue making more face shields to help with the shortage in PPE. As they continue on this personal mission for their community, it reminds us of the blessing of relationships. And the importance of reaching out and connecting with our neighbors, friends, and loved ones, because we are in this together.
As a Catholic, Marianist school, we hope to inspire our students to become good contributors to society. With Service, Justice, and Peace as one of our five foundational charisms, we encourage our students to use their gifts and talents for good and to serve their community in meaningful ways. More often than not, we find that our students and families are the ones who inspire all of us.
The Chama Mama social group was founded in September 2019 as a way for all Chaminade moms to connect, build friendships, and have fun. Activities are planned throughout the year by a committee of volunteers representing all grade levels.
In November, over 90 moms gathered in the Bob Hope Center at the high school for a holiday wreath-making workshop. In January, Chama Mamas enjoyed gathering over dinner at Lucille’s in Woodland Hills.
In February, Chaminade’s Advancement Office hosted a Valentine’s Day themed breakfast. Moms from both campuses came together to enjoy a delicious breakfast and play table games to get to know each other better. The committee looks forward to planning additional fun and educational events for all Chama Mamas in the new school year.

To Our Volunteers
We hope that you and your families are staying safe during these uncertain times. We have all had major impacts to our day-to-day routines at home and at work, and even if right now we don’t have the pleasure of working with each other,we still would like to express our deepest gratitude for all the help you have provided the Chaminade family up to this point. You demonstrate what it truly means to be a community through your dedication and selflessness. It is these wonderful qualities that allow us to remain strong through these tough times.
Please know that we are here for you and extend a special thank you to all of the people providing essential services and working on the front lines.

Holly Berry Luncheon and Boutique
On November 24, 2019, we celebrated our Holly Berry Luncheon & Boutique at Chaminade. Attendees were able to shop for the holidays while enjoying lunch with family and friends. Proceeds from the event benefit the Campus Life Fund, which helps Chaminade students on financial aid cover expenses associated with extracurricular activities, field trips, textbooks, supplies, meal programs, and uniforms. This year, we raised $19,000 for the Campus Life Fund.
Beautifully decorated table settings are part of the Holly Berry tradition. Our table setters decorate a table using their tableware, glassware, and decor to complete the theme or vision they have in mind for their table. We want to thank all our table setters who participated in bringing the Christmas spirit to the Bob Hope Center and making the room come to life. Congratulations to Debra Bergman for being recognized with the first-ever Sandi Poms Award and Alexia Kevonian for being recognized with the Holly Berry Award.
We would like to give a special thank you to our Holly Berry Chairs Karen Friedman and Lori Shroyer for all their hard work and dedication to making this event beautiful and successful.

The White Family Challenge Alumni
On October 8, 2019, alumni around the world rallied together to celebrate Chaminade and give back. The White family - Rolland (Rolly) ’66, Harry ’67, Bill ’70, Robert (Bob) ’72, and James (Jim) - challenged the alumni community to gain 450 donors to Chaminade in just one day. If successful, the Whites pledged to generously donate an additional $10,000 in posthumous honor of their parents, Mr. Harry L. and Mrs. Helen E. White.
The alumni community not only met this goal but exceeded it with 465 donors totaling $40,964. For the third year in a row, alumni have accepted the challenge #forChaminade and made an impact in the lives of current and future students. We are very grateful for the White family and our dedicated alumni community who continue to partner with us as we form the next generation to love, learn, and lead together.
