NOVEMBER IS NCDA NATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT MONTH

What do you imagine the workforce will be like in 5 years? 10 years? What role will robots and automation play in the future of work? What new jobs will be available in the future?

Robots, artificial intelligence and other disruptive technologies are poised to radically change the future of work. According to Frey and Osborne: about 47 percent of total US employment is at risk for automation; 51% of job activities can be automated, but less than 5% of jobs are fully automatable. The future of work will be seen in the growth of new jobs and new skills. Entry-level and middle skill jobs will see less growth than jobs requiring greater education and more advanced skills. Of the children entering primary school today, 65% will end up working in job categories that do not yet exist.

The National Career Development Association (NCDA) promotes career development through its annual celebration of National Career Development Month. Every November, career development professionals are encouraged to celebrate with career related activities. In particular, NCDA sponsors an annual Poetry and Art Contest.

THEME: “The Future of Work: The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Automation”

POETRY & ART CONTEST

National awards will be given to the first, second, and third place winners in the six divisions in both the Poetry and Art Contests. National winners will be recognized on the NCDA website, www.ncda.org, in May of 2022.

The winning entries will also be on display at the Annual Global Conference in Anaheim, CA, June 27-29, 2022. National winners will receive from the National Career Development Association, a certificate and a special congratulations gift.

DO-IT SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Are you a Washington State high school student with a disability? Apply to be a DO-IT Scholar!

Preparing high school students with disabilities for college, careers and leadership.

Many capable individuals with disabilities face challenges as they pursue academics and careers. They are underrepresented in many rewarding fields, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

DO-IT Scholars are college-capable high school students with disabilities who have leadership potential. DO-IT Scholars learn to select and use adaptive technology, software, and online resources. They experience college life on a university campus in the summer, exploring academics and careers. Throughout the year, they network with peers and working professionals with disabilities; learn reasonable accommodations in school and the workplace; and participate in leadership opportunities that promote accessible environments, worksites, and community activities.

US Dept. of State - STEM DIVERSTIY CAREER FAIR, NOVEMBER 17th, 2021

MEET WITH MILITARY REPS DURING LUNCH

Monday - Nov 15 - ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

The Army National Guard is community-based and reports to the governor of its respective state unless called to protect U.S. domestic interests in times of conflict or natural disaster. They may also be deployed internationally alongside full-time service members when necessary. Today's National Guard fields troops from all U.S. states and territories. Each unit operates independently. Members of the National Guard hold civilian jobs or attend school while conducting their military training part time.

Wednesday - Nov 10 - MARINES

The Marine Corps plays a major role as the first force on the ground in most conflicts. Today, Marines are stationed around the world at all times, ready to deploy quickly whenever and wherever needed. Total service commitment ranges from four to six years.

EXPLORE THE MILITARY:

Salary and Compensation

It may surprise you, but the Military provides a salary that competes with that of most civilian careers. Depending on your role, you may be eligible for additional pay, and all military compensation includes a housing allowance and insurance contribution.

Base Pay And Special Pays

Military salaries come from two sources: base pay and special pays. Base pay is the same across all Service branches, and increases are based on rank and time in the Service. The base pay featured here is estimated based on the military average across all Service branches.

Special pays are provided for some service members based on occupational specialty or specific tasks performed. For example, hazardous duty earns an extra $150 per month, while aviation officers earn an additional $125–$840 per month. Service members may earn no more than two special pays simultaneously.

How Much Does The Military Pay?- Hear from Staff Sergeant, Jeremiah Peoples, of the United States Air Force:
