Fight For The Users Response to Wikileaks releasing "CIA Hacking Secrets"

Orwell - “Beyond, above, below there were other swarms of workers engaged in unimaginable multitude of jobs. There were the huge printing shops with their sub-editors, their typography experts and their elaborately-equipped studios for the faking of photographs. There was the tele-programmes section with its engineers, its producers and its teams of actors specially chosen for their skill in imitating voices. There were the armies of reference clerks whose job was simply to draw up lists of books and periodicals which were due for recall. There were the vast repositories where the corrected documents were stored, and the hidden furnaces where the original copies were destroyed. And the directing brains who coordinated the whole effort and laid down the lines of policy which made it necessary that this fragment of the past should be preserved, that one falsified, and the other rubbed out of existence.”

It is my opinion that this passage better describes Sales and Marketing floors rather than the catacombs of Government Agencies.

The better part of my career has been spent supporting Investigators and Incident Response teams to exploit the misuse of technology in effort to promote justice and safety.

WikiLeaks Just Dumped a Mega-Trove of CIA Hacking Secrets

Articles such as this Wired Magazine story upset me. The Cyber War is very real, and it comforts me to know that there are men and women employed by the United States government, whom spend their lives troving through exabytes of data in attempt to make the world a little bit better. Government hacking is a sad necessity of the world we live in. Their aim is to protect, not provoke.

Each of us is a willing participant in today's spy game. When we 'Check' the box and 'Agree' to the terms of use policy's of Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and every other service provided by electronic medium, we sign up to be vulnerable. When consumers sign up for an online account anywhere, they voluntee to become victims of targeted marketing, demographic research, and eventually a casualty of fraud when one of their many accounts becomes compromised.

Remember to thank your friends and family members working in the CyberSecurity field. Especially those working for Military and Government Agencies. I know too many Cyber Warriors who fight for justice that are overworked, underpaid, under-budgeted, and too seldom appreciated.
