Superintendent's Notes September 24, 2021

Happy Friday everyone! What a fun week with Homecoming festivities in every building. Thanks for making this a week to remember for our students. The first reminder today is a reminder the Sand Springs Education Foundation grant application is approaching quickly. Grants must be turned in by October 15. Keep in mind EVERY grant was awarded last year except for one. It is well worth the time to write a grant for special projects for your class! Much appreciation goes to the Foundation Board for the time and effort they put into fund raising to provide grants to teachers. Below are pics from the golf tournament they sponsored this week as a fundraiser for this program. While this is a FUN day, it is also tons of work! These folks believe in us and are proud of the work we do. Get those grants written! If you have any questions, please talk to your site leader or call Tirita Montross at 918-798-1517. They can get you started in the right direction!

Some of our staff participated in the SSEF golf tournament this week. Board member Bo Naugle also sponsors a team every year! Thanks to our community donors who make this event possible!
It's always fun to see staff invest time in our students' overall well-being. While Ms. Laura Huffake serves in our Nurses Office at Northwoods, attention to health is only a portion of the support she provides to students! Thank you Ms. Huffaker for taking care of the needs of our kids!

You know the district is on the right track when former students come back to visit! Below, 2021 Sandite graduate Marlo Fox visited the Varsity Basketball team for a work-out session and was gracious enough to take a pic with Ms. Schlehuber and me. This is a testament to the kind of work Coach Savage and his team do to make solid connections with students!

That infamous SMILE!

United Way Kick-Off is scheduled for October 4. More information will be coming soon. Please consider giving to this worthy cause. Our staff has historically done a great job showing much generosity each year. Even the smallest donation helps. Remember this can be a one-time donation or a series of donations over time AND can be deducted through payroll.

Nothing like having colleagues randomly dress in jungle theme the same day I do, ESPECIALLY on my birthday! Ms. Tina Moses and Ms. Jamie Conrad are two of the BEST!

Ms. Courtney Harbaugh is shown below with a precious new Kindergarten student at Garfield this week. It's always a little intimidating to start a new school and Garfield staff do a fantastic job making everyone feel welcome!! Great job Ms. Harbaugh!

One of my favorite things about Homecoming Week is watching secondary students integrate into the fun at our elementary sites! As I was leaving for work yesterday, I could hear the Drumline at one of the south side elementary schools and, upon visiting Garfield was pleasantly surprised to see former Garfield students greeting students at the door. Apparently, it was Tourist Day at Garfield and Ms. Russell and Ms. Stewart were definitely playing the part!

It was also fun experiencing "Decade Day" at Limestone! Interesting how some of the decades of my youth now qualify for this day! WHAT?!?

You really don't have to wait until October to begin decorating for Halloween! Below are a few Northwoods students posing by the scary spider, which appears to be NOT scary at all! It's almost October, Sandites! This year is going fast!

Great win for Sandite Football last Friday night at Shiloh Christian Academy! This team is now 3-0! Fantastic job to Coach Bobby Klinck and Team! Have I mentioned it's Homecoming Week already?!? Come out and support the Sandites at Memorial Stadium tonight as they face Ponca City! The Homecoming Ceremony starts at 6:30 and Kick-Off is at 7:00.

The team gathers during a time out last Friday night at Shiloh.

The following are a few pictures of the Homecoming Parade last night. Of course the Pride of Sand Springs Marching Band always takes the lead. Mr. Kyle Wright and his team need to be commended for a job well-done! By the way, we are pretty sure the beginning of the Parade Route is the best place to watch, particularly if you are collecting candy to pass out on Halloween!

The Homecoming Pep Assembly is always a fan favorite every year. This year is no different! Enjoy the pics below from today's assembly!

Every. Time.

Keep up the great work, keep remembering our "why", and keep yourself positive and healthy! Love this Sandite Team! ~Sherry
