Welcome!

This monthly newsletter will feature cool teaching, learning and technology ideas, resources and tips, as well as news about upcoming learning opportunities. There is a new process for purchasing digital apps and software.
Should I use this app? Use the workflow below to determine the process you should follow prior to using a digital resource.

There is a short list of apps that have been vetted by the departments of technology and curriculum and have a master contract with the district. If you want to purchase any of these applications for your school or classroom use, please follow the procurement instructions given under each application on the Clever Purchasing Digital Apps webpage. If you want to purchase digital apps or software not listed on the Clever page, please follow the instructions here from IT Purchasing.

Time for a refresh: Meet the new Google Classroom

Google Classroom received a lot of new updates for the new school year. Watch the video below to learn about them all, read about them or hear from the Google Classroom Team. PS The About page isn't gone–it's just morphed into the Classwork page!

Google Certified Educator Level 1

Are you interested in becoming a Google Certified Educator Level 1? If you're an educator who knows how to use Google tools in the classroom, this certification proves your proficiency. You can study for the exam using these skills checklists from Eric Curts or by going through the training at the Google for Edu Teacher Center. When you're ready to take the exam, IT will pay the $10 certification fee! Register to express your interest in taking the exam on PPS Pepper, under technology and contact Melissa Lim, mlim@pps.net, if you'd like a voucher code to take the exam.

Technology Professional Learning

All fall 2018 technology professional learning opportunities are posted and you can register on PPS Pepper, under Technology. Courses focus on G Suite apps and are available at lunchtime and after school (voluntary and unpaid).

Technology Professional Learning Offerings are now on PPS Pepper, under Technology

Virtual Office Hours

This year, I'll be holding virtual office hours on the third Wednesday of each month from 4-4:30pm. Join me in my Google Hangout where I'll showcase some cool tools, answer education technology-related questions, have conversations or get feedback. I'll send out reminders, so just click the link at the scheduled time! The YouTube Live link for Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 4pm is youtu.be/A6Xb-3VvhtU.
