It is no bad thing to have questions to ask – that is research.
Asking a funder for their advice can sometimes wheedle out from them hints that would not go into print. Asking questions can, if you are sensitive, develop a rapport which might be useful in the future.
Human relationships are always useful. Respect the job they are trying to do. Read and abide by their guidelines and FAQs. Look deeply into what they are trying to achieve and why. Show that you are responding to their priorities.
Plan from the start of your project to gather information to report on – bad reporting is a good way to lose future opportunities and you cannot establish a base line of users needs six months down the line.
